Was hoping for some incite on this component on my 84 T/A. I've been researching this device for literally hours today, and been at it for days. I have an 84 service manual that shows a "generic" drawing of the convenience center, and a "general" location of it. I've seen videos of people with different yr cars, (3rd gens) showing how to replace a flasher, and the best one I saw was from this site from 2014 with this title on it. Yet after hrs of being logged in here, and in the search pages for the electronics category, I can't find it. The gentleman had an 87 T/A, and the best I can get from it, is his isn't the same as mine. My console is out, and I've had the pedals out, and things are strewn around. I removed this component yrs ago, and am now trying to see how it's mounted. I can't make sense of it. I was hoping a member here could take a picture of theirs, or give me some guidance on which direction to go. It's been driving me nuts.
From all the info I've seen, mine is backwards. In order to get it as in other pictures, it would have-ta be twisted "un-naturally" against the wiring conduit going into it. I'm at a loss, and was hoping for some direction of where I might find a photo of one in place, from an 84 T/A. Thanks for any help.
Its just another part of the dash harness that once moved is impossible to get back to its original position. It goes right above where its hanging now. I believe the fuses and such face the driver side door. Its held in with 2 long screws, #6 i think. And yes, its annoying AF to get mounted.
Thanks for the reply shifty. I think I saw one mounted 90° to the cars C/L , but others I've seen frt to back. I'll look harder into that. Appreciate the help.
On my 84 camaro the components face up into the dash and the narrow end screws to the front of the dash underside The narrow end holds the OB1 diagnostic port. So it mounts right in behind where the ALDL cover is. Later yr camaro had it mounted sideways i think.
Heres a pic of whats left of the bracket (circled) on my 84 w/ a OBII on it.
You put an OBDII system in your 84? Guessing you've done quite a bit of modifying your drivetrain, and electrical to accomplish this. Very impressive. Unfortunately your photo doesn't do me much good. It looks nothing like mine from the above photos. But your comment of the later years being mounted sideways helps. Thank you also, for your reply.
Thats what left of the brakcet after i cut off the part that used to hold the black piece with the flashers, etc. Which would have been in the spot where the brown box is. The OBDII is part of the LS3 swap.
Wow! That's a definite help, Boyd. It looks to be the same as mine. And yours is an 87? I'll have-ta get back out there, and put the tray back together, cause it appeared to be backwards. Your pictures I greatly appreciate.
