disk/disk prop valves

I have 2 disk/disk proportioning valves that I found sitting in a box in the basement. The box was partially crushed so the metal mounting brackets were a little bent but I bent them back in place and they look alright. The metal brackets were painted gloss black before they were put in the box.
$35 shipped for each (in cont US)

If anyone is interested, I also have a disk/drum proportioning valve and a stock master cylinder. I'll do $27 shipped for both of these.

I'll cover all paypal fees (the seller always should) if you choose to pay that way

Re: disk/disk prop valves

Last I saw they were still in bags on the pool table in the basement so yeah they're still for sale.

I take it you would like to purchase one of them? The camera battery has been charging for a while so I'll see if I can get you pictures now.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

The other one looks exactly like this one other then another larger rubber thing on the front of the prop valve and the bracket probably being bent slightly differently since it would be impossible to get them absolutely perfect again.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

How did you want to send payment?

I can get it shipped out the same day I receive payment unless I get the payment after the post office closes.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I think the prop valves are the same from 84?-92 but the 91-92 models had a different master cylinder but I could be wrong.

You, Zeromitch87, and wildjyoung should look into that just to make sure since you all have 90's thirdgens. I'll also do some searching tonight but I won't do all your homework. I'll give you guys(gals?) a day or two to figure things out and make a decision before I move on to the next person (if there is a next person).

Thanks. I don't understand the whole paypal debacle either. It says right on their website that it is free to the buyer and it's the seller that is charged the fee (see link below for proof). I understand that the economy is crap and people want to be wise with their money and get everything they can for what they have but the fee is often only a couple dollars or less so I don't see why it is a big deal.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

It's only been a little over 12 hours so you're not late at all. I work third shift so usually sleep during the day too. No worries man. I haven't heard anything from wildjyoung in over a week so you're next in line.

This is what I've found from my searching...
  • 82-83 cars require swapping the brake line fittings going to the prop valve for metric fittings
  • it seems 84-89 cars and 90-92 cars had different specs for the disk/disk prop valves but I can't find any numbers to see how different they are or what exactly is different. However, if I remember right from past reading (like a year ago), I think the 90-92 disk/disk prop valves had a slightly higher rear brake bias but it was only higher by a couple %
Based on that it seems all third gens require a disk/disk prop valve to properly make the swap to rear disk brakes, but it just depends on what kind of bias you want and that depends on the exact brake setup you're running down to the pad compounds if you're looking for ultimate performance.

If I get paid by 9:00am I can get both prop valves shipped out at the same time.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

Fitment may be an issue. The threads are different between 84 to early 89, which have M1.0 tube nut threads, and late 89-92, which have M1.5 tube nut threads.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

Thanks James. I just checked both prop valves with the lines from my 87 Camaro and everything went together so both of the disk/disk prop valves are for the 84-89 third gens.

If nobreaks254 and wildjyoung don't get back to me with a "I'll take it" by midnight tonight then *84TA is next since he contacted me through pm before you posted. If he backs out then you will be next.

Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully your brake upgrade will go smooth. Something I learned the hardway... use LOTS of PBlaster on all the brake fittings you'll be messing with. I'm not talking a couple hours before either, I'd say start a day or two in advance and squirt any time you walk by. haha

Re: disk/disk prop valves

I just sent a pm to *84TA saying if he wants it he can send me the cash. I'll give him 2 days to respond just like I gave the other guys.

You're on the list rlewi771 but it is unlikely I'll make it to you. *84TA and 406TPI seem intent on getting the prop valve.

Re: disk/disk prop valves

Mike, to be on the safe side, the guys might might take a peek at the valve in their cars. If it doesn't look like the ones you've posted above, the car has the old cast iron version with SAE lines (which won't match the later valves). I only point this out because 82-83--and 'some' cars as late as 85--are apparently equipped with the old version valve.

The difference can be seen in posts #1 and #2 of the following link:

Re: disk/disk prop valves

I never realized it was as late as '85 for some cars. Do you why that was? Did they just keep finding them in boxes around the factory? haha

Hummm.....I have an 85 with the old style prop valve as pictured in that thread, however, I am running a LS1 master with the metric lines..they fit the old prop valve fine. I thought the old one had SAE lines?

Interesting on a couple of notes: 1) My 85 IROC is equipped with the new style combination valve and it does have metric threads. 2) I've never seen/heard of the old style with anything but SAE threads. That said, perhaps the 84+ old style, when they were used, were indeed metric.

Color me befuddled.

EDIT: I took a look at my 82-85 Camaro Parts and Illustration Cat with the following results where discs were concerned:

Valve, Comb (J65) (1982-3) 25511944
Valve, Comb (J65) (1984) 25517739
Valve, Comb (J65) (1985) 25521985

The lines and masters were interesting too:

Tubing (3/16) (Cut as Req.) No p/n
Tubing (6mm) Cut as Req.) No p/n

Cylinder, Master (w/Rr Disc) (1982-3) 18009126
Cylinder, Master (w/Rr Disc) (1984-5) 18011929

So different combination valves in 84 and 85, according to part numbers, but the two use the same master.

"Curiouser and curiouser," Alice cried.
