87 350 4bolt outta chev truck...

Hey guys

The time has come to replace my smokin 305 with a more powerful and non-stinky engine. I found a 350 in the classifieds about a month ago and emailed the dude for the block number. Today (30 days later) he replies with:

"the engine is out of a 87 chev pickup truck.
it is all disassembled. it is a 4 bolt block but needs to be rebuilt."

He wants $200 for it and that's the best deal I've seen but I don't know if maybe he's thrown together some assorted engine parts or something is missing? Also, aren't you suppose to keep stuff like the rod caps with their respective rods or they'll wear wrong?

Since it's an 87 it has single rear seal, different cly head bolt pattern, and roller cam?

It seems like a good deal - I just don't want to get get screwed

Thanks

ask these guys. I think they charged $800 for a core like that. If you buy their engine and give them the core, they wave the fee. Double check to make sure. www.hawaiiracing.com

The 350 I bought was out of an 87 truck, got it for 50 bucks still had the heads on, nothing internal had been messed with either.

i got a blow 4 bolt 350 with roller pervisions and 1 piece seal for free it would have been good if one of the rod did not break off the crank and take a chunk out of cylinder 6
i was curing but i got it for free i did not really care but i could sell the heads and the crank for like a 100 so im ok

The trucks never received roller cams until the Vortec (1996) came around, but it should be a roller block (just look at the top of the lifter valley and see if it has the screw holes for the lifter spider). But it does have all those other things listed.

Make sure you get the casting # before you buy it and look up on it.

after 87 all 350 blocks including truck blocks came with the previtions for rollercame even if they did not come with them
you can run a regular cam on a roller block without a problem
if you have anyquestions about it just take the intake off and look at the center on the lifter valley from front to the back of the motor
u should see 3 taped little towers where the spider lifter holdown bolts in
hope this helps

Hey 84,86,88Z28, where in Maryland are you? I might be interested if you're not too far away.
