ls1 performance question...

I did a search, but could not find any comments on how LS1s performed once installed in thirdgens. Any rwhp and 1/4 mile numbers available? Just curious to see the results this swap yields. Thanks!

The LS1 is an awesome performer in thirdgens. Believe it or not people are running mid 12's without mods.

Slightly modded engines are running high 11's/ low 12's putting down mad hp and still getting 20mpg around town.

I suspect I will be capable of the aforementioned times with cam and converter.

I drove that car. It's an animal.

The LS1 is a very sweet engine. GM rated the LS1 Camaro’s and Firebirds at the rear wheels. So the stock HP rating 300-325 HP depending on which year LS1 you get is how much it puts out at the wheels.

This site has dyno numbers of a thirdgen with a LS1.

All engine HP ratings are at the flywheel. GM just changed the numbers, for whatever reasons they had. At least they didnt over-estimate, like Ford.

I have heard rumors that GM rated the Camaro LS1 at the wheels to lower insurance rates.

Rumors not true. This comes up a million times, the testing is per a standard that hasnt been changed. Its not new about manufacturers lowering HP ratings for 'insurance' purposes though... or other reasons.

Actually I heard that about the LT1 but it's not true either, a buddy of mine with an LT1 dyno'd it stock and only put 260 HP to the rear wheels

I believe they only started rating rear wheel HP on the Camaro & Firebird LS1's. I think, I may be wrong but I though LT1’s stock HP numbers are rated at the flywheel. But all Camaro and Firebird LS1’s are rated stock HP at the rear wheels.

possibly. A Z28 is just as fast as a corvette is from a dig. I've seen it all too often. They rate the Z at 320 HP and the Vette at 350

Ratings fot LS1s are depeneding on what year you have. 01 and 02 ls1 engines have been rated anywhere from 310 to 330 rwhp on average. For thirdgens it is the ultimate swap because it is about 150lbs lighter than legacy sbc engines. More power less weight. You can not loose.
