V6 to V8 swap 700r4

ok guys.. i've been hangin round here for a while and i think i've made up my mind... i currently have a 2.8 in my 82 sc, and im gonna swap in a 350 and put maybe a 700r4 behind it. would anyone put in a th350 instead? since i wont have anywhere to put a donor car, wht parts will i need, like speedo stuff. i kno about the springs and all that junk.i want a carbed 350, no tpi. (too big a project already) should i look for a 350 like this from another 35d gen, or could i just use any? i do have to worry about emissions. and also, do you think a mildly built 350, maybe .30 over would be too much for a 700r4?
thanx
john

if built right, the 700r4 can handle anything that a th350 can, it is said that a stock 700 will handle 400 flywheel hp, they are essentially the same tranny but the 700 has overdrive that is controlled by the computer. TCI makes a kit that will eliminate the computer for the tranny for $75 if you want to get rid of the computer. the blocks are all essentially the same. if emissions are of concern then i would consider getting the motor out of another 3rd gen so that you could get all of the emissions stuff, however, i thought that 82's were exempt from emissions, could be wrong, i live in GA and we don't have emissions. to answer your question, will a th 350 fit? well, yes and no. yes the th350 will go into the car, however, if you want to use your drive shaft, i think you need a tranny with a 9in tailshaft. i believe that both hurst and b&m make a kit for the torque arm to bolt on. i believe that the speedo cable will hook right up.

that's all i can think of for right now.

oh yeah, get new motor mounts too, you can pull them out of the v8 car your getting the motor out of, you will have to move the brakeline for the passenger front brake. there are also many aftermarket mounts. i bought moroso solid motor mounts for my swap and they are BAAAAD! but some folks don't like the solid and opp to go with a poly mount by someone like energy suspension. hope this helps, and guys, if i misinformed on anything, please correct, but don't get aggrevated.

not trying to be an *******, but that statement is TOTALLY 100% wrong!

mw66nova, have you ever had the guts of both apart?

you will see they are NOWHERE near the same!

well, i was under the assumption that the 700's were just a computer controlled th350, or is that the 4l60e, um....oh well, it's ok, thanks for the correction. the 700's are strong if you build them right though, are they not?

here's a friendly tip: please dont pass on information that YOUR not sure of yourself

the 700R4 is completely different

the 4L60E is more the less a 700R4 with a CC valvebody but still has its guts upgraded

IMHO, 700R4's are garbage no matter how you slice it (compared to TH350's and TH400's anyways)

they have wayyyyy too many internal design flaws, some of which i can not even see a way around (i pulled my 700R4 apart and found that the sprag ate itself into the case- i dont see how an upgrade can be made for that)

i'm no expert on 700R4's (or any trans for that matter) but from what i have seen, if i had a HiPo motor and a choice, i would not choose the 700R4

if your car is currently equipped with a 200c tranny, you will be able to use your driveshaft with a 6 inch tailshaft TH350, for a 9 inch TH350 or a 700R4 you will need the driveshaft out of a 700R4 or T5 equipped 3rd gen (or even 4th gen, as long as its a 1 piece and not the newer 2 piece shaft used on some cars)
