I did my whole engine for about $1500. That includes machine work. So if you plan on doing it yourself it can be very cheap. And you can find SBC parts anywhere. But shops will cost you about $65 an hour I believe to rebuild it for you. And you can do it yourself if you just take your time and be careful what your doing.

no i was looking at taking it out myself and having a machine shop do some minor work to it i only wanna spend 400.00-500.00 my engine has a bottom end noise under load but it doesnt smoke and runs good so i thought i might get away with bearings and timing chain and grind the crank make sure its right on ant sugestions what else to do how much i can get it done for ?i need a good cheap plan not much money right now i do have 15/8" headers for it and plan on putting a 3" exhaust for extra hps.
You can definatley get it done for no more than 500 dollars. Do the bearings definatley (rods and mains). You might not need to turn the crank. Have the machine shop check it out, it might just need to be polished. While you have the pistons out, you might as well throw a set of rings on there too. Just make sure there are no scores in the cylinders. If you have to have it bored out, that might push you over your budget.

so if the carnk is good and the it doesnt need to be bored i will be right in the budget? i hope i get lucky thanks bro for the info now i just have to get it out and find someone honest to check it lol.
If the crank doesn't need to be turned, and the block doesn't need to be bored, then yes, you should be under your budget. All you have to buy is bearings, rings, gasket kit and one thing that I forgot in my last post is a high volume oil pump. Melling makes a good one that puts out about 60 psi. Good luck.

The thing is there is really no way to tell untill you get the engine apart. Then it can get more expensive. It's impossible to say that the bottom end is good or it doesnt need bored. There can be a huge scratch in the cylinder wall and you not know it or the crank is on the low side and will need to be turned. Just be aware that it could get expensive and putting it back together with things wrong with it isn't something i'd feel good about doing. But thats just me.

believe me i have no intention of putting the engine back in with bad parts but i do have to get it apart to find out whats up with it so im hoping that the crank is ok i guess im hoping for the best but it has to be done anyway i just hope i have some luck i was saying that engine runs good an=d that i know the heads are good.i can have the whole enegine rebuilt for about 900.00 so it cant get more expensive then that lol if its know good.
