motor swap questions....
i have a 305 in my camaro right now. the car was originally a v6 and has solid motor mounts now. if you find my other thread i have a knock in the engine.... well ive found a 403cid for dirt cheap( my dads gf has it in a monty ss) as far as i know the motor needs work, but thats not above my skills. i want to know if its worth the trouble to try the motor in my car? wat considerations need to be made. i have the 700r4 but the 403 has a turbo 400, will this be as easy as drop in and replace or will i be in serious doodoo come time to drop it in???

Ain't worth the hassle IMO. H#ll, if I went through all the trauma of figuring out how to put a 403 in a F-body, I'd make it more worth it and just go with a 454 BB Chevy engine.

BOP is Buick Oldmobile and Pontiac. They have completely different trans bolt patterns then a chevy. You can't us a chevy trans on a BOP or wise versa. But they do make adapters for either way. THe 403 can be a good buildup because it has a huge bore and short stroke. Put a stroker crank in it an build a 500+ motor. But the 403 has a weak block so watchout.
Not worth the swap, i wouldn't do it. IMHO

ahh .... i thought buick, olds, pontiac were gm but hey i learn new things everyday...... aside from the trans problem would i have and clearance issues to worry about. i read somewhere that larger engines require frame members to be cut and welded( not an option ) and for the floor pan to be pounded. what im asking is will this engine drop into place and mount to the car w/o mods or will i need to take other considerations... He meant it won't hold up to the power of the 403.
In standard form, I agree. But there are also very stonglt built aftermarket 700R4's available that would handle it.
But if that's a big block, you'll have lots of frame, hood, and suspension changes to get it to fit.
Sorry.
