hey everybody.
I have an 82 trans am with a chevy 350 and i'm pulling the engine to put in a better one
there is this thing, i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Air Conditioning system, which i converted to T-80 (t-tops, 80 MPH) but this thing is in my way, and i would love to clean up the bay a bit more.
does anyone know if it can be removed, whats underneeth, and how to remove it if it can be?
thanks

lets see
are you wanting to keep the heater if so you will have to angle cut it in behind where the thing that sticks out is to be able to retain the blower motor capabilities and then cover with some sheet metal and then maybe glass it over to seal it off. but if you dont want to keep any of it there about 10 little bolts around the edge of that and the blower motor that you have to remove and then sheet metal over the 2 holes from the condenser(i think thats what it is) and the blower motor hole. and wala its out of the way thats what i did on my 89 bird. looks alot cleaner and you can actually get the rear plugs on passenger side. hope this helps.

anyone know how the blower controles for direction stop working?
is the blower the round thing on the far left? did you keep your heater? got any photos?
oh, and any sugguestions for a paint to go on the headders?
it would be nice to be able to get to the spark plugs there...

For me, I took it all out and left the heater blower part, and bent a sheet of galvanized metal to the shape with a hammer, Zip screwed it in and siliconed the gap...Works great. If I would've had my S-10 when I did the swap, I would've stole the non a/c box off that!

This might sound stupid...but isn't the silver can that screws up to that the Air Conditioning refrigerant. If that is so, if you take it out you will loose all Air conditioning with the heater right?

the way the car is in that pic, there is no AC, therefor he's looking to drop the extra weight.. and make things look pretty..
I can't live without AC.. but if I chose to, I'd by a non AC box. save the hassle.

yea... AC would be schweeeet, i have that on my NEON, but i'd rather spend the money on go-faster parts than rebuilding the AC on my TA.
i looked for the covers on ebay and they are going for around 100-120..
maybe i'll look into making one....
