3.8 SFI turbo into 87 GTA

Hey everyone. I am thinking of dropping a Grand National motor into my car. I was just wondering what is involved with this swap. Any help on where to get parts for this swap is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Should not be that big of a deal since the car had that setup as an option at one time. I would search the turbo buick boards for more help.

A Grand National motor into a GTA is possibly but will not allow you to retain the a/c. The TTA used different heads and headers than the GN , among other things. A swap is not easy and by no means inexpensive, but can be done. If you need any help on locating parts or info for a swap feel free to PM me.

I love the way GN's look and I love their engines too. Why seperate the two?

The heads are 3.0 liter heads. Pretty common on a lot of Pontiac's

The headers are very hard to find and will cost $$$$.

Motor mounts go to Napa and get the TTA motor mounts they only list the passanger side on but get 2 of those as the driver side one is identical (originaly the driver side had a small cut out to clear something but this should not be an issue).

Make sure you get a complete GN engine as anything missing is pretty expensive. And the AC lines are unique to the TTA, some brackets for the alternator and AC (from the heads) are unique.

The intercooler scoop you can apparently use the GN one and "squeeze" in place or you try to get hold of a TTA one but expect to pay $$$$$ for it.

You probarbly need the TTA engine wire harness, think it's still avalible from GM but very expensive.

There's a number of people who have done the swap and should be able to help out. But expect to spend a lot of money. You might even consider buying a TTA, there is several listed on e-bay all the time and some for less than 10k.

I might be wrong but if you don't run a/c then you can retain the factory gn heads and there won't be any clearence issues

Correct. If you run GN heads you need a custom downpipe though.

fly89gta-whats cheaper and easier to get a costom downpipe or pontiac 3.0 heads?

Also would you use the wire harness that came with the gn engine or would you buy a tta harness?
