that pretty much answers it, unless you can find an "as good as" v8 car w/body you like w/crapped motor to swap in new one.

I did the v6 > V8 swap, and it was OK. But, unless the vehicle has a lot of sentimental value or was a terrific deal, it isnt worth it. It's not a very cheap swap, not that it is too expensive. Its a lot of work, especially if you have to abide by emmissions laws. I would never do it again, but I am glad that I did it this time.

same as mentioned above... if you've done alot of work on your car and it holds sentimental value, then go ahead and do it.

I will be doing the exact same thing.. my 3.1/700r4 are gonna get the boot for something infront of a t56... to me its more than worth it bc of all the time i've put into 'er.

I had an 84 camaro with a v6 that I got for free.I put it a big block 403 from my old 79 t/a.It was awsome to drive with that motor in it,alot of torque.I would do a v6 to v8 swap again. It was not hard at all.You will have to change a few things of course but it is worth it.

thanks man..

I have an estimate of 2 years to finish my motor/ tranny

should i do this while im waiting like over the winter.. get a t5 parts car and do my auto to manual swap now.. even kno id have to find a v6 manual car... atleast my auto to manual would be out of the way.. or should i just wait 2 years when i have to do everything at once

I would just do it over the 2 years. That way you have time to work out bugs,if any.I would also do the tranny and motor at the same time,it'll be easier for you.

The ONLY advantage you'll have starting with a V8 car over a V6 car is that it will already have V8 motor mounts and you wont have to re bend or replace the pass front brake line, and you dont have to change the chip for the tach in the cluster, please dont listen to anyone who try's to argue otherwise, unless this is an 89 or prior car, then you can add a different radiator to the list, my goodness hard stuff

i went from a 2.8 to a 350, now a 350 to a 355.

i enjoyed every moment of the swap. i knew it was worth it the first time i heard it.....on open headers. if your new to a thing like this dont be afraid to ask questions. when i bought my car, i bought it to be my beater, now i wouldnt trade it for anything, not even a lingenfelter corvette . i plan on keeping my camaro for a looong time.

the problems i ran into were minor.

fuel pressure with the intake electric fuel pump is WAY to high so i put a mallory fuel pressure regulater on it. dont spend money on the cheap regulaters without a return line, useless pieces of crap.

moving the motor mounts forward wasnt too bad. theres A LOT of strategies to do it. just do a search on that and youll find so much info on it. i ended up using a swivel with a ratchet to get at the nuts in the crossmember. whatever you do, dont just weld the mounts in, half *** job or a hack job IMO.

cant forget pics

these are of when i got it out

the 305 in

and this is how she sits now with the new 350 being built

To get the motor mounts out, i just used a wrench underneath to hold the nuts, and had someone use an impact to take out the bolts. Ten minutes, and they were out, and to get them back in, we just used a little bit of Permatex gasket sealer on the inside of the end of the wrench and the outside of the nut to hold the nut on. It can be a PITA, but do it once, and you will always be able to do it again. It'll leave those kinds of emotional scars that you will never be able to erase without years of psychotherapy and brainwashing.

J/K. Hearing the car start up for the first time after the swap is akin to watching your kid take their first steps....you'll keep waiting for her to fall on her face, and when she doesn't, you can breath a sigh of relief, a sense of pride that this is something that YOU created with your own hands, and then you can start teaching her how to work on cars.

the things that are gonna take a lot of your money are the little things that you will need to buy. LOTS of bolts and nuts.
