350 to 305?

just an odd sort of question, can a 305 be dropped into a 350 car without major hassle? No, i'm not trying to be thrifty and get better fuel economy. I've got an 88 gta, with a 305 and I've been wanting to upgrade to a 350 and up here 350s go for about $1500 canadian.. well someone is selling an 89 gta with a 350 for 2700 bucks... so if u do the math 2700 - 1500 worth of engine = 1200 car... could i swap the engines and trannies that easily and then just resell the $2700 car with the 305 in it for the same price.. or would there be problems i'm not thinking of. cuz if my idea is fault free.. its like going up to a 350 for basically free

Depends upon what year the 350 is? I would not just blindly drop in a 350, because its a 350. There are many 350's that are way worse then your 305. Look for a 87 or later L98 it will drop right in. Also do a you will find all the info you ever wanted or needed and then some.

i know decently about dropping in 350s, but the main question was would a 305 drop into a car built with a 350... like would would the 305 mess with the computer or anything?

305s and 350s are pretty much the same block if u look at it, the only thing that changes is the stroke and the bore, so there shouldnt be any big time hassle

If it is fuel injected then you'll have to change the injectors, knock sensor, and chip.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The only thing that changes is the bore. The hold the same stroke, 3.48. It all depends on induction types on how much work you will have. They will bolt right up in place of the others. But if both are TPI, you will want to keep the injectors with each other, knock sensors, etc. Make sure to switch the proms also.

Why on earth would you want to "drop a 305 into a car built with a 350"? Why?

The only person I can imagine doing this is a fraudster who was going to sell his '350 car' with a cheap 305 engine transplanted in. Thus, keeping the 350 and conning the buyer.

I'm assuming the '88 is the one with the "sentimental value".

However, you try foisting a car that now has a 305 in it as if it still has the original 350, you aren't going to get any support from me (and perhaps will get something else from me instead).

the one that has the 305 right now i just got repainted which cost like 3grand and yes, its my first car, so sentimental value, but i want to get a 350 instead...

i want to swap the engines, 350 into mine, 305 into the other car... then resell the other car, it wouldnt be fraudulent to sell it with the 305, unless i'm still claiming its a 350, which I obvisouly wouldnt do. I'm not gonna go rip someone off.

The guy is sellin it for 2700 bucks, as long as the body is still in good shape which im assuming it is... i havnt looked at it yet, people will still pay 4000-5000 even if its a 305.

Instead of going out and buying a 350 from a totalled car and paying like $1500 bucks. I'd be buying a car, swapping the engines, then reselling the car. It would be like a 350 for free.

I get it now, good plan I would just swap the 305 right in, and wouldn't worry about anything. It may not be optimum but it should be fine.

from my understanding some 87s came with the 350 and then they realized that the combo of 350s and t-tops were twisting the car so they only put t-tops in 305 cars... thats what i've been told... anyone want to clarify for us?
