Trying to rebuild my motor but Within Street Legal means
Im in Cali, but I want some horsepower in my IROC. I think my 350 just took a crap, so Im going to rebuild her, though I'm a novice still learning a lot. I'd like to go 383 with forged internals and a procharger. Is this possible to achieve while still being street legal, and is it possible to get near 700hp? Before deciding to to go street legal I was going to go with Dart alluminum heads, Vic Jr manifold and Holley 750 dbl pump, but Id like to not have to trailer my car everywhere.
With my Tpi, how do I find what heads and cam I need to achieve better yet legal performance.
The StealthRAM from Holley is street legal, would that do better than the stock TPI?

Where in Cali are you? I have a built 355 that was balanced and blueprinted has an LT4 Hot Cam Cloyes double roller, Hi volume BBC oil pump, Moroso 6qt oil pan, AFR 195 heads fully ported, one piece rear main seal, Forged pistons, forged rods, plasma moly rings, forged crank, Stewart stage II water pump, CSI mini starter, MSD complete ignition kit, have build sheets., etc... The engine as such with a Super Ram on top will probably put close to 400 at the wheels. It has been built to take a nice big shot of nitrous or a Supercharger. 200 shot of nitrous and your at near 600hp, COMPLETELY california street legal. Will also be cheaper than a 383 build, and you will still get 20+ mpg on the street.
Shoot me a PM for pics and all

Technically a 383 is not legal in CA, but it's not likely to be noticed or caught. IMHO your best bet is a legal blower. Nitrous is illegal, or legal to have in the car, but illegal to use on the car.
Going to a carb isn't legal neither, nor is the StealthRam. The only 2 legal intakes for your TPI car in CA, is TPI or SuperRam.
I'm not sure of this, but I think the blower guys say keep TPI if you're going forced induction. You might get a better answer (or a search) in the Power Adder forum.

A turbo set up and a 355 is your best bet at fooling emission officials and making an *** load of power

Not Turbo, but a Super Charger. There are no smog legal turbo setups that have a CARB EO from what I have seen, but there are plenty of SC's to fill the bill

Ive been looking at the P1SC from Procharger, but you say the motor can handle 12-20psi from the D1SC so Im tempted.
Can the motor, with stock internals, handle the D1SC?
