header problem on bbc swap
I just put the motor in the car and was attempting to put the headers on. But i couldn't get them to go in. Do i have to raise the motor off the mounts alittle to get them in or are they just a pain to put in.
Thank You

always do the tightess side first. Best solution is to lift the engine off both mounts at once and angle them in. I usually have them in before I sit the engine down in the mounts. I believe the driver side needs to go in first..the passenger side w/ the slip pipe goes in fairly easily after there is clearence in the firewall and frame area.....they are not a bolt on without a hammer
good luck

I'm assuming you have the Hooker SuperComp headers. I found the best way is to put those headers in place and tie them up out of the way then put the engine in.

This is from the Hooker instructions if you don't already have them:
LEFT SIDE
1. Remove the spark plugs, exhaust manifold, and oil filter.
2. Starting from below, work the header up and through the chassis into position.
3. With a friend holding the header in place, mark the pinch-weld seam area (weld bead) on the frame, just behind the left lower control arm. See Figure 1.
4. Remove the header and cut the pinch-seam for adequate header clearance.
5. Insert the header back into position. Install the gasket and all bolts (tightening them evenly).
6. Reinstall the oil filter and spark plugs.
RIGHT SIDE
1. Remove the spark plugs, exhaust manifold, dipstick tube, starter, and (if automatic transmission) transmission dust cover.
2. Starting from below, work the main section of the headers up and through the chassis into position and have a friend hold the header in place.
3. Insert the gasket and start all header bolts (most restricted first).
4. Install the dipstick tube and tighten all bolts evenly.
5. Install the starter, spark plugs, and transmission dust cover.

i wish i still had the part ##'s to the motor mounts, but there are 2 sets of solid motors for chevys. you want the taller of the two, i also used the moroso frame pads.
the headers are a pain 'til you get them in once, and yea there's some cutting and beating on the so called "frame rail" to make them fit.
