Im not a mechanic but if you can afford the gas i would go for the carbed 350. You have a muscle car just waiting to be released in that pup. Im actually planning on doing the same thing later down the road, but mine is a v6 right now. Since you are swaping a V8 for a V8 there wont have to be any real changes that i can think of. its up to you but thats my any way good luck

There are stickies in this forum and in the carb forum (if going carb) about swapping - it's a basic swap - everything connects up as long as you have accessory holes in your new motor's heads (which you do in a 1970's model).

If you think it will cost $1000, then get $2000 - the little things will nickel and dime you to death - I swapped in a carbed 350 in October - and I'm still tuning and spending cash like there's no tomorrow. You'll want to replace things like motor mounts, tranny mount, etc. while your there. The 3 intake gasket sets you'll go through alone will be $50. And it won't happen in a weekend, or even a week, unless Chip Foose has his crew at your place!

You mostly need Cash, Patience, more Cash, and even more Patience!

Thanks for the replies! im taking that 305 TBI motor out and have the 78 350 carb to put in! im just wondering if there is anything i should do like take out or disconnect the computer? and stuff like that, also what kind of distrubitor should i use with it? and im putting back a 700R4 trans that was recently rebulit w/ a shift kit and taking mine out thats stock! so what should i put in new and do about everything else with the computer??

yet again im taking this from a "dont care about gas prices and want a beast" car stand point, but here is my opinion. the computer i would take out and put on the shelf for if you ever want to go back to EFI. As for the distributor I cant tell ya. and for anything else I would say take the stock carb. out and put a 650 or 800 cfm Edlebrock thunder series 4-bbl carb. in there i think you can get them from Classic Industries (they specilize in GM restoration and modifications). and you will probably want headers and the only thing i have to say about that is be wariy on the size. You RS (if its stock) has about the same ride height as my bird which is practicaly nothing. and on that item i believe Jegs has headers specificly designed for our cars. anyway good luck and hope for the best. And remember you own the car, make it your own

the ign. you run will depend on your cash and use, i initially got an older one wire hei (the one that would have came on your 350) for 5 bucks from the junk yard. you can get a cap and rotor and be on your way. later you can worry about upgrades when the cash becomes available. you got to do something to lock up your TQ, check out the trans forum. with the ign and trans done you dont need the computer anymore. the rest depends on what your doing with the car.
