What starter for my engine
Well I have a 1969 engine in my car and i tried to change the flywheels so it would fit my new starter that i bought for the old engine and the engine is older so it would not fit, so now i tried using the new starter i bought for the old engine with the new engine (69 350)and i had to shim it quite a bit due to the 14 inch flywheel, btw this is an auto, and it works sometimes but most of the time i have to get back under the car and loosen up the starter bolts and the gear on the starter goes back in. then its good for like 6starts then it grinds again and now no matter what i do it just grinds. so what starter should i put on this car for it to work. my flywheel is fine nothing wrong with it, but the gear on the starter is shot help me fix this car.

The car your 69 motor came out of.......or get an early 12 3/4" flywheel for ...say an 84 camaro...and put it on your motor and re-use your starter.............

and where, pray tell, did the crank come out before 69 and what did the flywheel bolt to then?
Seriously, you have a 2-piece rear main seal crank, and yes, an 84 camaro came with a 12 3/4" flywheel that would fit your application. The easiset thing to do is pull your starter, go down to pep boys, and have them look up a starter for a mid 70's chevrolet whatever with a small block. One of them should be for the larger flywheel...you can tell by the bolt pattern on the starter. One has offset holes and one has holes straight across. Whichever one you have, get the opposite.

i figured out my problem i need a flywheel that will match the stock starter for the stock T/A engine. so basically i need a 153tooth flywheel that will fit the 2 peice rear main seal.

All you need is the correct starter. There are 2 types, and I'm posting pictures of both. Whichever one you have, you need to buy the other (the one for a 168 tooth flywheel). It should be the one with the staggered bolt holes. I hope the pictures help.
