custom tpi setup HELP NEEDED

ok so i have a 91 TPI z28 camaro.. i have a 355 small block, hyrdraulic roller cam, roller rockers, upgraded fuel system, 24 lb/hr injectors, SLP runners, no air pump, rebuilt rear, and the trouble is IT RUNS LIKE CRAP!!! it has a 305 stock chip, my nuetral safety switch doesnt work and im not sure if the computer actualy needs it to work.. i havent gotten a chip for it and am leaning in the direction of a jet custom not off the shelf chip. the idol blows.. it cant idol below 800 in gear because of the cam and just turning the idol screw up is a bs way to bandage a problem.. i go to uti.. its a car school.. im pretty good with cars.. but computers, im friggin lost.. is jet a good choice? i know i dont have the time or ability to make my own.. is a chip the answer? someone with some tpi customising experiance please help

my answer

I think your on the right track with looking into a chip. That is you problem. I would find someone local, like a dyno shop or a place that could burn you another prom or flash your current one.

1991 TPI = speed density (SD) system. SD does not measure air flow directly, and makes assumptions such as engine displacement, flow capacity, cam, etc., and makes engine control decisions accordingly. When you change any of the assumptions, such as engine displacement or flow capacity, the stock programming can't handle that.

An off-the-shelf chip probably isn't going to help much, either. Unless they have a chip on the shelf that matches your set-up. But, a chip for a 1991 350 TPI would probably come a lot closer than your 305 chip does.

Any updates on this would be nice. How was your experience with Bob and Craig? Obviously your car runs better if they tuned it, but what was the cost/time/outcome of it all. I talked to them today by phone, they told me @ $550 for dyno/tune/etc and the car would run great. They'dd have it a full day. Sounds steep, but it'dd be done with - once and for all.
Your experience???????????

If you guys look around on here. There is a sponsor?? www.tpiparts.net that I believe does chip programing. So you can take a 305 tpi setup and install a 350.

The only thing with TPIparts.net is that they will not modify spark/fuel tables. They will modify just about anything else though. Check out www.PCMforless.com. I have a chip thats burnt from there. I basically did what you did. I swapped out an old 305 tbi for a modified 350 tpi.(aftermarket heads and cam, ported intake, hedders, larger injectors, etc.) I have no complaints with the tune, my car runs awesome.

What the advantage of a place like Racekrafters is though, is they have everything there. If I decide to do this route, drive down, and dyno/tune/burn/anything else needed to run this car like a hassle free, enjoyable car should be. I thought about LPE too, but.... I just can't spend that kind of $$ for what would most likely be a similar tune. If I was going to a 427TT, yeah, I'dd be arriving at LPE with a smile . But I would also have to have the kind of cash that it wouldn't fizz me either.
