motor mount # from autozone is 2292. this is the rubber mount. the steel shell should be on the engine if pulled from a car, or if using a crate motor go to salvage yard to get a pair. the steel shells can be from any 80's GM car or truck with a smallblock. around here their $25 a pair. also you'll need to swap out your transmission the 2.8 has a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing and their not strong enough for the V8.

can i use the same shells as the ones that came off the v6 or do i need to get v8 ones? and also i have a new turbo 350 trany for the engine after all this going to look into a new rear also

I believe they are different as the 2.8 is not a 90* v engine. if you are using a TH350 trans then you will need to get a cross member swap kit for the torque arm, seen them for around $100.

The engine half is definitely different between V6 and V8. The V6, as stated, is 60 degree, so the block is farther away from the mounts than the 90 degree V8 block is.
There was a post about the engine half about 2 years ago (I remember because that is when my 350 went in place of the 305 - that went in place of the V6 in 1999). At that time, the engine halves were still available from the factory. There is a different part number for the left and right mount, but I was never able to figure out if it makes a difference if they are swapped side-to-side.
While you're at it, this would be an excellent time to get polyurethane mounts for the frame side. Far, far superior to rubber.
