Probably a small block. [so 350 or 400, then theirs stroker motors too]
but wait for someone more experienced to chime in.

This is not specific Aftermarket Product Review so I am moving it.
Personally, if money was no object, I'd look at building a 427 with custom EFI, but that is just my opinion. Budget and ability would be everything, though.
Good luck.

Re: Replacing Engine.
big blocks fit, stick with a built small block and save the headache. if your hell bent on a headache then go for the ls engine route. Im asuming you dont know much about engines so we will be here for all your quearions but i do advise to search first.

Re: Replacing Engine.
It's what I did before deciding on a motor. Check out what other people have swapped in and take note of what they had before. It's different for each case.
In any case, maybe to more direct your post I think you want to know how much HP/Torque before you have to start thinking about subframe connectors, etc. This will narrow down your engine search.
Would I be correct in saying anything over 250 HP/Torque you should start upgrading the body? Just as a ballpark figure.

i istalled a 436 chevy sb in my irocz 600hp ,630 ft lbs. and all i did was put sub frame connectors in.if you have t-tops you should have them it eliminates all the rattles .

These cars need subframe connectors even if they have a V6.
The question is really too open-ended to even hazard a guess. "What's the biggest..." or "What's the most..." or "How fast can..." are impossible to answer. Simple things like budget and what you're planning on doing with the car need to be known up front before any reasonable response can be expected.
