'86 Iroc 305 LG4 help.
I have an '86 Iroc with the 305 LG4 carburated and 5speed. I want to make some changes that will allow for more get-up-and-go, i'm sure you know what I mean
Anyways, I live in Pennsylvania and need to be able to keep stock emissions in order to keep getting legal inspection stickers. I am wondering if anyone can give me some tips on where to start with this motor.
I have heard that I can get a 350 and use my intake and heads for more power and still keep the emissions. I am not sure if that is true or not. I would like to to keep my engine though if possable, but if I have to change it, I will see if I can get something else as long as I can keep the car emissions legal.
Thanks in advance for any helpful information,
Jim

Re: '86 Iroc 305 LG4 help.
Jim, you have an excellent platform to work with. What I would do, is, pull the stock heads and give them a nice thorough porting. Try to get your hands on an aftermarket intake manifold (preferrably w/EGR, as you already noted), and port to match the heads. Consider a nice custom ground camshaft for your application (for your stock Static/Dynamic compression levels), and upgrade the rods/hanger in the carb to compensate the added fuel needed. You also might want to look into an L69 Prom for a more "performance" calibrated tune....

Some pix would've been nice in that article. Sorry, I'm all visual.
I can't just read, I need to see as well.

There is a sticky in the top section of the Carburetor forum that has the factory service manual information for the E4ME. Even has pictures.
There is a thread in the FAQ forum about the differences between 305's and performance modifications. A bunch of good information in there.
