502 swap poly motor mounts problem

the actual thread is :https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ml#post4002265

Here are the updates:
I am stuck with putting the engine with polyurethane motor mounts, I am trying for 4 weekends and still could not make it. Here is the problem: I managed to put it with older mounts but with poly's it seem very hard. I managed to slide through the bolt on one side but on the other side, the brackets hitting the mount and it does not allow putting the bolt through.

here are the pictures:
this is the PS firewall side

this is the PS bumber side

this is the DS bumper side

this is the DS firewall side.

As you can see PS bracket hits the mount so I can't slide the bolt in.

I double checked the brackets side from a thread that I found in forum. (you can see the number in one of the photos and it is at the right side.)

What is the solution?? What should I do??

I believe energy suspension, and prothane recomend leaving the motor mount to k-member bolts loose so you can't make up for miss alignment then tighten the bolts when you attach motor to the mounts. they will settle after awhile and there should be no issues, your not far off, you just need to lossen the bolts of.

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

I already tried that, even I tried to remove the bolts completely and first attached the mounts to the motor, and than tried to attach the mounts&engine to the k member as a one unit...
I was planning on removing the k member, putting the engine on the k member when it is loose and than I was going to try mounting the k member but than I thought again, It won't make any difference...

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

I kno a few people have had issues with the BMR AND SPOHN k-members being off a little so they require a little massaging, or force to make them fit. I have had this issue with my prothane mounts i just used a really large pry-bar and forced the mount over to the side. I did this by puttin the pry bar inbetween the clam shell and the mount and pulling on the bar forcing it over, I got it to move about 3/16".

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

but how did you slide the pry bar between the shell and the mount, anyway I hardly put the mount into the shell (just touching the side but there is no room for a pry bar; for a big one, no, no clearance)

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

Mine was really tight aswell, but i forced the pry bar into the mount. you can pull the mount and elongate the holes. just enough to give you the room to align the holes. I have seen this done befor but yours seems to be out of alignment pretty bad. don't increase the diameter of the hole just elongate it.

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

Did you realize the internal twist of the mount? I mean when you look from behind the mount hole seems like it's staying far left (consider the bracket hole as a reference) and when you look from behind, you will see that the mount hole stays far right... that meen when the engine weight comes on, the mount twist inside the shell, and that is because the front lip of the bracket is pushing the mount down... I tried to jeck the motor up, I tried everythhing but I could no slide the bolt in

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

the camaros have two different size mounts as well. the drivers side mount is a bit taller. if they are switched all kinds of alignment problems can arise.

This is why I stick to the Moroso solid mounts.

Re: 502 swap poly motor mounts problem

Exaclty A buddy of mine wanted poly mounts too, damned things don't fit properly at all. Takes major wrestling to get the bolt in and even the metal tangs don't line up or lock into the shell. It's in now but took some brute force to do so. On all cars that I've used the urethane ones on (brand doesn't matter) it's always been a major struggle. I've used solids ever since, never an issue and vibration is no worse than with poly
