Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
the 4.3 wont bolt up to the 2.8 mounts and the tbi wiring wont match up to the sfi. the 4.3 tbi would drop right into a 5.0 tbi car with no mods tho. trans wont bolt up either

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
If you still have the Wiring fropm the 4.3 just use that, That way you can still use the Fuil Injection, I am in the process of putting a rebuilt Astro 4.3 into my Camaro. I am gonna use the stock astro harness, as for the moter mounts it will ount like a V8. Use the tranny from a V8 camaro and you will be fine

Do you remember what year the astro was, if you do, go to a junkyard and pick one up for it. That would be the easiest thing to do

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
No offense, but why do you want the 4.3? For all of that work, why not just get the V8? Gas mileage wouldn't be all that different, and you'd have more power. If you want to stay with a V6, have you given any thought to a 4th gen 3.8? You'd still have to change the transmission, mounts, harness, and computer, but you should be able to leave the suspension alone. The 3.8 offers 200hp and 25-30 miles per gallon without having to baby the throttle (and that's in a heavier 4th gen).
The 4.3 is a much heavier engine than the 2.8. How are you going to address the weight issue with the front suspension? V8 springs?
Also, you might have to get your hands on a V8 radiator and hoses. Be prepared for that.
I don't know what the 4.3 exhaust manifolds look like, but I'm doubting that the 2.8 Y-pipe is going to work for you. Start asking around the forum to see what other people have used with a 4.3 swap.

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
Not sure aboutr Guy, but for me its easy
#1 I have the engine w/wiring sitting here doing nothing
#2 I don't want a V8
#3 I know what kinda power this particular moter will put out
#4 Yes Im gonna have to get some V8 parts, I don't care

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
well see not many people give the 4.3 v6 or any v6 the respect that they should have so i built my 4.3 up to make it a power house thin when i put it in a camaro body and put a blow thru turbo on it and start smoking v8s thin people will see maybe the v6 is a good motor to race cars with.

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
I'm hoping someone will be glad to hear that I've done this. My customer brought in a Camaro with a dead 2.8, and brought me a 4.3, and aasked if I could do it. I started by calling summit for ADD-713123 adapters, because from the trans to the motor mount on the 4.3 is several inches less than on the V8. Having previously swapped several V8s into factory-V6 third gens, I did nothing to the V6 front springs. No need. I bolted up a v8 700R-4 to the 4.3, and installed the trans in the factory position. Now, the adapters are meant to go between the engine block itself and the motor mounts, but to keep the power steering, I found it easier to attach the adapters to the frame, then put the motor mounts between the adapters and the block. There was some drilling involved. Now, the s-10 accessory brackets won't let me close the hood, so I swap the whole front setup from a '90 Camaro RS 305. Including the V8 water pump. Be warned, it's tight to the crossmember. At this point I call the guy, he comes over, and asks if we can just cut a tube from V8 headers. Then his cell phone rings. 5 minutes later he comes over to me and asks me how much he owes me. He pays, and tells me he will take the car in a few hours. I never saw him or the car again.

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
I will be doing this swap soon myself. I have a 87 305tpi 5 speed. And am going to put the motor and trans out of my Syclone in it because it is sooooooo much fun to beat the crap out of the high and mighty v8 with a lowly v6. And the reason I am pulling the motor out of the sy is because I am doing a bowtie v6 build. And as far as weak.... on a base tune I made 530 to the gound on 15psi in the sy. Sooooooo why not I have a spare motor anyway.

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
What does idle speed have to do with anything. LOL 2700rpm at 84mph
1500rpm in od is like 45mph thats school zone speed. BUT 3 gears down is 4000rpm and loss of traction on d/r's But hey what do I know I'm just one of those slow v6 drivers

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap
To the original question, the easiest route might be purchasing the Painless Wiring Harness to adapt a 4.3 TBI into any vehicle.
