HELP! I need more power!!!!
Okay, I have an 85 z-28. I have the TPI, the hi-perf chip, and the hi-press fuel pump. Okay, I think that I am doing in the area of 265 - 300 HP a little more maybe.
Now my dilema, One of the people who go to my school may be getting a 2000 camaro ss. the specs on it stock are 305 hp and like 315 ft.lbs. torque. Now this is a rich man's son that has no clue how to work on parts, and I think that he is gettin this car to try an show me up.
well any way, I've got a 305 with about 30,000 on the clock and I would like to have more power with it being kept a sleeper, without the use of Nitrous or a supercharger, not enough money.
Does anyone have any sugestions on cams, heads or any other stuff that I can make power off of. I would like to make about 350 - 400 HP.
I kinda like the AFR heads. this car is a daily driver with a 700-r4 tranny and I do take it into the city.
any suggestions?
any help will be greatly appreciated

can anyone suggest a streetable cam?
also I have a 400 sbc in my yard and how hard would it be to swap it in with my TPI?
I like the idle roughness of the 400, but i heard that there are problems with them. mine's got only 75,000 on the clock and was driven by a little old lady......untill I got my hands on in.....hehehe
and could anyone suggest any parts for either scenario (305 vs. 400)

The SS has roughly 335 horses. It is a very strong motor in a very solid car and is going to be very hard for your Z-28 to beat. It has a 6-speed transmission and much better suspension and brakes (if those are stock on your car). Try a new exhaust system and don't forget to get better brakes.

Ace, you're probably making more in the area of 215-225 horses right now. Sorry, reality is cruel.
I'd suggest going with the 400 - getting that kind of power out of a 305 NA will make it barely streetable. You'll have to mod that TPI to feed the 400 right, AFR's are a good start, but a miniram would help bunches. Check out the Aftermarket board, a post there talks about AFR & miniram issues. But, you should easily make 350 ponies with a fairly mild cam (at least not radical), good heads (be sure to drill the steam holes), and a free flowing exhaust. As you select parts, shot to keep the rpm's below 5500. Find some traction, and you'll be able to keep up with your silver spooned friend, and still be able to drive it every day.

I figured that. If I can't rev it up that fast and if I can make the power pretty quick I could get out of he hole pretty fast. Has anybody had any experience with the 4X4 EXTREME from Comp Cams? And I hear that the Fast Burn Heads are great for larger cube engines, Horsepower Tv made 450 HP out of an almost stock 350. I mean a little bigger cam, but it also made that pretty fast and down low.
I know that the TPI is pretty restrictive for the 400, but I am on a buget and all I need is about 350 HP right, can the TPI support that, maybe with SLP's runners and a larger TB and then some porting?
Any thoughts or comments?
