As you might gather, the easiest way is with a 3rd gen f-body 350 V8 donor car ('87-'92). With a donor car, it's basically a remove & move proposition.

Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
well i know first hand how to do this cause i did it to my 85 camaro with 56000 miles on the clock. the changes are more than i thought it would be and is a task that takes a lot of resources if you dont have a donor car like 57kid said. heres a list of stuff for the swap you need and need to do. v8 engine mounts and relocate them, brake line rerouted, i used a 350 and 700r4 tranny and the 2.8 tranny tailshaft and torque arm bracket worked with it. new brackets pulleys and pumps for the front of engine. bigger radiator and new hoses v8 camaro exhaust manifold and y pipe. if its fuel injected then you need a fuel pressure regulator with a return i used the mallory 4309 regulator worked like a charm. also the cross member and driveshaft worked from the old v6 stuff. the wiring also was pretty straight forward the only thing i had to do was the wire that gives the distributor power i needed to go to the junkyard to get the end off a v8 i might have forgot a few things your wondering about but if you need any questions answered im sure i can help since i did this swap over the past few months.

No, it's not difficult. You just need all the V8 parts, as next to nothing is common with the V6.

well if i could do it all over again i would of gotten a tuned port manifold from the junkyard and made my 350 fuel injected it would be more fuel effiecent and better performance in all climates plus it just looks cool.

Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
350 definately cause they are cheap and plentiful and everyone rebuilds them. also just get a good name brand cam no mysterious company off the internet. call summit or jegs. also if you wanna get a good bang for the buck get either an old quadrajet and rebuild it ive had good luck with them (also if you take a stock air cleaner and flip it over with a quadrajet it sounds wicked) or buy an edelbrock carb 600cfm or 650cfm at your local advance autoparts. (thats where i got mine) had no trouble with it over the past three years just cleaned it out a few times with carb spray while still on the car just run an inline filter with it also.

Im also about to start a swap. I have a rust 85 2.8. I have an 88 iroc with no title but all drive train is great. I want to pull everything from the iroc including the wiring forthe swap, I want it to look factory . Any body have anything I need to know before I start, never done a swap this in depth. Thanks

Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
it will be easy since you have two good cars to do the swap they are basically the same it will just take some time dont rush it and it will turn out very nice but if i was you i would take the vin# out of the v6 and put in the iroc no one be the wiser hahahahaha
Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
If you have a complete TPI donor, its a pretty simple swap. I swapped the 350 and out of my 87 GTA, into a 84 Z28. I just took the complete harness, and ECU and put it back in the Camaro just like it came out of the TA. Also for what a turbo kit and the supporting upgrades for it would cost, you could drop in a 350 that would absolutely destroy a 2.8 with any kind of power adder. Plus like he said. Your VERY lucky if you get one to 100,000 miles. About everyone I ever saw bit the dust around 80,000.

Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
i agree very much so with Z2887 i would just go with what has been tried and tested to make good power and great performance and still be done on the cheap. also get a tuned port injection if you want to go that route and get better gas milage. i might still buy the engine my buddy has and do that swap over winter for my 85 z28.

Re: 1987 2.8 swap to 350
I also am doing a v6 to v8 swap. I have an 82 firebird with a 2.8 carbed V6 in it and have the intentions of putting in a 350 carbed. Can anyone let me know what troubles i should watch out for or possible tips. I realize this isnt gunna be an instant swap, i know it will take time. I want to do everything the right way, no riggin.
