I have the ablitlity to rebuilt the 350 engine but i don't want to rebuild the 305 b/c it is not worth it. What do you guys suggest buying???

91B, I thought I spent a good bit of time on a well-thought-out reply, and all I get in return is this...

Okay, 6spd, let's see what we've got here. What 350? You don't say what year your current car is; or is this a car you don't have yet? Are you getting parts only from this IROC, or the whole car? What 350? What's wrong with the 305?

As my most recent reply to 91B says in his referenced post, you ain't gettin' much for $700. Flat out reality. You may be able to re-ring the 305 for that, but getting something new and rebuilding it for 350 HP is beyond realistic.

A GM replacement 350 for around $1200-1300 is closer to your budget, but would only put out about 250 HP. Your HP goal NEEDS headers and high-flow exhaust; unless you go with the ZZ4 conversion kit, which has high-flow manifolds & exhaust - $5000 by the time you get it installed. Any other 350 combo will need good heads, which will run you about your budget alone, minimum, unless you come across a "find".

I would suggest you continue saving your money, continue to do research, look through magazines and catalogs to get an idea what it takes. When it all comes together for you, do it.

Now, I'm going home to install that MegaShifter and PowerTrax in the '57. I've been waiting about 3 years to get them...

To switch to a 350, you need to change the knock sensor to one for the 350, you need to change the prom in your computer to run it properly and you may want to change your injectors, the 305 uses 19lb/hr and the 350 uses 22lb/hr stock but some people use the 19s anyway with an adjustable fuel presure regulator.Other than that the two engines are basically the same on the outside so all you accessories will bolt up.Aside from performance upgrades thats about all the difference there is as far as swaping the two.I dont know about the MAF sensor so if someone else knows please reply.Hope this helps

thats is my long term goal, the 305 is junk, i have not bought the IROC yet, I am just trying to figure out what it will cost. I want to put a 350 in, inplace of the 305.

no, the 350 would be used and I will rebuild it, hopefully a roller-motor. OK, say I get the 350 running fine, runs like it is a new stock L98. What first mods do you recommend to free up the most power, I know I want to add a Cat-back just for the shear sound and the performace gain, so...lets say I have a stock, perfect running 350 with a Hooker Aerochamber Cat-back. What should I do next.
Maybe the TPIS Fast Pak and porting of the stock base and plenum. With those mods that is around...250 hp??
