97 votec 350 swap?
I have a 89 5.0 tpi that is taking a **** on my now so I was wondering if I should swap it out for a 97 votec 350 I have, the engine is not running but I was planning on just doing a stock rebuild and throwing on my TPI set up(I need the base plate to make this work right?). Then just thorw a good size cam, runners, injectors, headers and a tune and just calling it a day, or this same set up but on a TBI 350 out of a 92 van. I dont want to spend too much(1- 2 year I plan on an lsx/t56 swap) I will be doing all the work myself too. What motor should I use? Whats the price difference between the two as far as getting them in?
van that I was thinking about doing the same with(instead tho)

A vortec 350 would work out great. Make plenty of power and there are some mild cam options out there that would make you very happy.

Re: 97 vortec 350 swap?
Awesome! Just wanted to make sure before I dump any money into anything. I thought it would be the better of the two. Any modification needed, other than regular 305-350 swaps? I've heard I have to buy a different base plate, but what kind of base plate do I need? I have the stock vortec intake.

A Holley Stealth Ram for Vortec heads would be a way better set up and will only cost another $100. It will basically act just like an LT1 then.

Well, not exactly. The EFI would still be batch fire, vs. the sequential injection of the LT1.

That way hes just reusing the shortblock. If hes going LSx in a few years then stick with stock overhaul, maybe even reusing the 305 heads on the new shortblock so he doesnt have to buy a new intake. The vortec heads wont support much cam without machine work which again goes against his budget build
The LO5 engine will have crappy swirlport heads, small cam and likely higher miles since its older. The good news is you can reuse your old TPI intake. From a performance standpoint its a pretty boring, but its better than your 305 and cheap enough to hold you over for the real engine
