I wont cover everything here:

Loosening up the oil pan would be a good start, then you can get the timing cover off (once all the accessories are out of the way of course). The radiator has to come out, and the AC condensor (if you have AC) can be moved up enough for the cam to clear. There are 2 cross braces and theres a brace under the hood latch that needs to be removed as well. Once you get all that out of the way, the cam can be taken all the way out of the block.

If you are looking for a detailed step by step, try the tech articles. If theres nothing there and you need more information, a manual would be a good idea.

The intake manifold & valve covers gotta come off too, though these are easy.It takes some time to do it with the motor in the car,but it's mostly all the disassembly required to get to it.The first three cam installs I did, were all with the motor in the car.Buy all the gaskets & stuff ahead of time and give yourself a weekend to do it if you don't have help from somebody with experience.

To remove the oil pan, yes you need to jack up the motor considerably. If you're only trying to loosen the pan to get the timing cover off I don't think you need to raise the motor.

Yeah, you shouldn't have to move the motor any to loosen up the pan.You just need to loosen it up enough to drop the front of the pan 1/4" or so, so you can wiggle the timing cover out.
