Re: Finally! My 383 swap
It's just under $30.00 for three runs, but I can guarantee you that you will have more than three passes on Wednesday night, unless some Honda oils down the track. This usually happens when they try to do a top fuel burnout for no reason whatsoever, then when they pull up to the tree you see the oil start to spew, then you know it's a half an hour wait lol. I have a build thread in the power adder section, and just like your build here I was forced to swap bodies for the build a few weeks back because the first one was just too much freaking work in the long run....

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
Am screwed
Nasty oil leak wasnt a nasty oil leak. I mean it does leak but the puddle was antifreeze. hard to tell at the time due to it was raining.
Bypassed heater core, noticed a leak dripping off of trans pan. Hoping it was my mess for redoing the heater lines. But, took it out for a spin, came home, no leak untill it sat for a minute or so then started pissing out in front of the trans pan. Thinking i blew a intake gasket at back of the motor, i cant see though.....ARGGGG

track cancelled, short lived dream lol

ugghh hope not, they were all brand new. I swear if those are bad and leaking the engine builder is going to get an ear full
Re: Finally! My 383 swap
You'd think if the intake was leaking, you'd see it coming out AROUND the transmission bell housing, not from inside it. Much as it sucks, I'm betting on a freeze plug.

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
No, there was sun out yesterday and i couldnt really see it from the top, Was thinking about getting a radiator tester thingy ( lol ) and putting some pressure in it to see if it leaks.
I think i've made my mind up, pull motor and trans agian ( need to replace my trans lines as they are now leaking pretty good ), Replace every gasket on the motor minus the head gaskets. I put synthetic in it before she went into the camaro and both the front and rear main seal are leaking.
Now i just need to convince my friend to let me do it at his house so its a weekend quick fix, rather then haul it all the way back to NY and not have a car until spring

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
Ok as some of you may know or already figured out! I am changing my design. Being fed up with the motor as is, ( leaks, tranny leaks, pulling it out, putting it in, pulling it out again ) I almost got my hands on a LS3 ( was sooo close ) but it fell through
So i contemplated a 5.3 turbo build. Part my motor completely out and get to it. Well after thinking it might take some time to part with everything, i've listened to a few members and decided to keep my block.
So, Winter of 2011 build plan is as follows
383 turbo
-Pulling motor and trans very soon, Replacing every single gasket on that block with high end gaskets, no BS 350 rebuild kit gaskets.
-Selling my AFR heads, cam, push rods, headers and Y pipe
- Grabbing a set of 165 76cc heads, 2.02. 1.60 from a friend
-Custom head gasket to get my compression down
-T76 turbo with intercooler
- New set of gears, either 272's or 323's
- new cam to match the turbo application
- Sending my carb out to get converted to blow-by
-More blood, sweat, tears, and beer
Am disappointed with the power the motor makes now, its got alot of get up and go, but racing my friends 12.8 110mph zz4 350, i felt it should have pulled much harder and it didnt. This new combo should not have this issue. So tell your buddys to buy my stuff, and have them tell there buddys buddys, sooner it sells, sooner the POS is back on the road :P
Either this weekend or next weekend am towing the ol girl back to NY so i can work on her over the winter. Should be fun!

Finally! My 383 swap part deux!
Nice to see you stick with the sbc for now, lsx swaps are great, but i think you will enjoy a turbo sbc more. Gonna be fun watching it progress.
You have yourself a little project for the winter!
And as you know, just be patient and select your components carefully.

I have been straight with every post on your thread, right??. Yes you have had to pay some heavy dues trying to make this work for you.I was sorry to see you walk away from your N/A situation.I know there is tons more in that if you continue to work on that and frankly the money is already spent.Sure wish you would reconsider....................

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
you will need a bigger chamber head then a 165 to turbo your car i would go with a 210cc if not bigger if your going big cubes and turbo? i mean think the 383 itself will need to breath letalone with a turbo forcing it down her throat. just some food for thought

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
Ok guru's
Head casting 3970126. I've read people saying 65cc heads and 76cc heads. Only positive answer I can get is it came off of a 327 sbc 68-70's.
I would love to get new heads with the turbo conversion. Money is tight, and possible divorce to come. So if these will work for time being ill use them as they are already 2.02 1.60's. When I get funds again ill upgrade, that's even if the head is decent enough to use for the mean time

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
Short run down....before we get back to the head casting #'s lol thank u all for the concern and ill be ok
I don't own anything...no house, no land, no assets, have nothing in value lol 401k just started a year ago, worked under tables for over 10 yrs. Worst case scenario I sell my buddy the car for 500$ and she gets 250 and I get it back afterwards lol now with that all said.
Back on topic!!!!! Lol

I think you should start a new thread in the power adder section, and add this one as a reference. You're looking a a whole new 'build' now!

Re: Finally! My 383 swap
The start is near. To get the ball rolling i've decided to make my first purchase so theres no backing out now.
http://www.snowperformance.net/product.php?pk=83
I will be upgrading to either a 2.5 gallon or 5 gallon container, havent decided yet
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang...item2eb875cb9e
I have not ordered this as of yet, i still need to speak to Orr or Lethal for there opinion on what intercooler to go with. But something like this. Am not sure if 4 core is overkill or not, though with my compression i guess it wont hurt.
Next on the list to order
http://www.ebay.com/itm/T76-Magnum-P...item20b6578c82
Seeing am not going to change the heads or the pistons, only planning on 5-7 psi with this build. I will however run a mix of race fuel, either sunoco's race fuel, or order the fuel online and mix with sunocos 94 octane ( which is the only gas the motor has seen so far ).
I think am set on Orr's turbo cam he is willing to sell me, we just need mike jones to go over the cam first.
Am actually quite excited. I realize this is a high compresion motor running boost, so it should make things interesting. I will be doing alot of research to find out who will control the tuning aspect for me. But as of now, am just waiting to get a truck to tow the girl upstate NY so i can start on the teardown.
I do have a crazy idea to cut 2 5'' holes in my front bumper

Obviously alot nice then this picture lol, Kind of look like the supras or imports they use with there turbo inlets, get direct air through the bumper towards the intercooler and radiator. Its an idea am throwing around. And it will be unique

That's how its done, buy something and don't look back! You already have such a nice huge opening that makes all us trans owners jealous, use it!

The new whip, during financial struggles the Turbo build went south and i sold everything. Motor is ripped apart, changing to a solid roller 6 speed. Stand by
Re: Finally! My 383 swap
Alright...got to page 8 and decided to just jump to the end and ask, if you did dyno the 383 what hp did it end up reaching and if you dont mind me asking how much did you end up with invested in the engine itself....parts, machining, labor ect....
