Swapping 83 crossfire engine to 92 f body need help
Swapping 83 crossfire engine to 92 f body need help
So I pulled the engine and tranny out of my 83 and am in the process of installing it into a 92 body. My problem is the myriad wiring diferences. My question is can I just take the wiring harness from the 83 and plug it into the 92 or is there more to it? Please help the engine is up on the hoist as we speak. Ian.
Also even easier can I just use the harness in the 92?

I can see on the 83 the modular plugs that fit into the computer are the same as the 92 as are the two clear modular plugs. My only real questin as far as the harness is on the 83 there is another modular plug with 4 wires that runs towards the drivers side under the dash they are 2 red wires one white wire and one blue i dont know what they are.

I SWAPPED MY CROSSFIRE TO CARB, BUT THE TBI TAKES SO MANY WIRES THAT RUN DIRECTLY TO THE FUEL PUMP AND HOOD LOUVERS IT IS HARD TO GET EVERYTHING WORKING RIGHT

I don't have any experience with the CFI system, but I think its cool that you are swapping it into a 92, most people do the opposite. Anyway, When I did an LT1 swap there were just certain wires that needed splicing, and most were left to go directly to the ecm or sensors, etc.. Basically what i would do is get a complete cfi wiring harness diagram and also get a complete 92 wirig harness diagram and see what needs to be modified. The wires that go through the passenger side fender that don't go directly to the ecm should be fused injector ign. wires, and also SES, speedo, etc.. Put simply, the only wires that REALLY need to be hooked up are the IGN wires, and HOT wires and it should run, given that the pump is working as it should. The wires that go through the C100 connector (Large black one that is on drivers side under relays) are for your gauges, and there is one pink IGN wire that would go to the distributor.
What motor does your 92 have?

hey bradley23150 thanks for the reply The 92 had a 5.0L TBI. Right now I am pulling the wiring harness and the ecm off the 83 as well and am looking into repining the c100 block to accept the 83 male end. Are you saying that may not be nesecary, that maybe the EFI controllers are not in the c100 block? You think that if I just hook up the IGN and hot wires the fuel injectin will work properly? What abot the Prom? ECM?

Run the 83 harness the way that it is ran in the 83. Remove your TBI ECM and use the CFI ECM and harness in the same location as the TBI one was, and there shouldnt be any PROM tuning or anything of that sort. If you really wanted a plug and play thing, swap the entire dash harness/dashboard from the 83 as well as the motor, but thats adding TONS more work. The C100 contains your gauges, Dist. IGN, Reverse lights, Emissions ign wire, starter interlock, TCC, Fuel control, and power distribution. I believe that the fused injector wires come up through the passenger side, not the C100.
I am going to look for the thread that has wiring pinouts for various years, and post it here.

Go to this thread and scroll just over halfway down and it starts showing the c100 pinouts per year, but go figure 1983 is missing. Though I can't imagine 1982 being much different, so I would go by that. The C207 is the connector that contains a lead to the fusebox, which would power your injectors.

^ I agree, easier and less problematic overall. You gain so much by getting rid of the crossfire setup.

Cool, be sure to post your progress and maybe some pics.
I have always wanted a CFI motor, and with some porting they can make decent power. I think there is a company producing aftermarket lower intakes for CFI but I am not sure. Yes sticking with the TBI would be alot simpler and easier, but you'd be missing out on a very unique engine in a later camaro.
As a side note, he wouldn't need to get a 350 knock sensor and ECM, because third gens never got a 350CFI, only a 305CFI.

Obviously your definition of decent power varies from most

I said 'decent' not good lol. I know what you mean, though.

http://www.crossfireinjection.net/news.htm This is the link for the renegade manifold. Very cool stuff promises 20+RWHP! They have some other parts to bump up the CFI as well check it out. I would love to get one of those. I know Crossfire isnt the best (185hp) or easiest to work with (oh yeah i need two of those out of stock air filters..) but I think mine is bad@$$. I willpost a few pics later.
