305TBI to 350 TPI, need the fine details

Alright well..... I searched and searched and every situation is different so I wanted to make my own thread, the plan is simple, ditch my 305TBI w/MAP for a 350TPI w/MAF.

I built the motor myself, did a full summit kit, hyper pistons, LT1 cam etc... I have a MAF TPI setup with a 9th injector, gonna delete that in the prom and use the 89 TPI setup to just use the 8, I've got a painless MAF harness thats gonna go in, walboro pump in the tank already, and a new ecm I believe is 7165 (not sure off the top of my head) just working out the fine details so we can get this thing in and done.

With the painless harness do I need to re pin the bulkhead or just wire it up to the existing wires? Not sure if theres a difference between the TBI MAP and the TPI MAF in the connector.

Also any info on how to tune the prom for the new cam would be cool.

To my knowledge it should be:

1. Remove old motor/harness
2. Swap accessories over
3. Wire up new harness to bulkhead
4. Install new ECM with the prom
5. Drop in the motor
6. Connect everything
7. Fire it up!

I still need to get my hands on some TPI hard lines but other than that I'm golden on the parts, and I am aware I need a new knock sensor for the new motor.... the idea of this is to minimize everything I can while the swap is going on, TB bypass, heater hoses cut down, cleaned up wiring etc what exactly can I do with all the hoses in the engine bay? Emissions are gone, my big pet peeve is the uneccessary coolant lines, just gotta figure out what I can delete here.... anything else i can ditch? EGR is gonna be blocked off as well and deleted in the prom

I've also been told I need a new accelerator cable, did some searching at oriely and they came up with the same part number for the cable TBI/TPI so I'm confused here.

Anything I'm forgetting here???? I'm itching to get this thing done, I started this adventure about a year ago but with having a soon to be 1 yr old and a wife, moving across the country and a whole bunch of other things the motor was back burned until now, but lifes taken a better turn and my wife is even excited for it to be done!

I'd research the conversion of the TBI harness to TPI and just go speed density with a `730 ECM. There's no reason for you to go MAF at this point except to use the Painful harness.

I prefer maf for datalogging, it would be stupid for me to toss my new harness and ecm, my current one is hacked to hell and back, I'm not a stranger to wiring, I'm an audio installer, I just need to know if the bulkhead needs to be re pinned

Re: 305TBI to 350 TPI, need the fine details

Im swapping a 1988 camaro 305tbi to a 1987 formula 350tpi. Bought engine bay harness & pcm for tpi. Bought larger volume fuel pump to support injectors. Will serpentine belt system swap from 88' camaro to the 87'formula motor?

Thanx. Once the block gets back from boring 30 over. And the actual swap takes place im sure there will be more questions that need answering.

UPDATE: I've had the block bored over .060 installed trwl2252af pistons on stock rods. Installed 276hr14 comp cam. Cam states dizzy gear must be a Composite but reviews say that gear wont work with hv oil pump. I have a Melling 55hv. Anyone running a composite with a hv pump. Im at the point of closing up the bottom end but if i cant use a hv pump with this plastic gear might have to put a std vol pump in. Idk. Ideas????? Has anyone used this cam with the stock dizzy gear or composite with hv pump???

Re: 305TBI to 350 TPI, need the fine details

Make sure you use the correct water pump.

I believe the 1988 changed direction with the serpentine so if you use the 87 water pump it will rotate wrong and not pump.

The serp. setup wont bolt on if the engine block has an 87 water pump.
