horse power question engine swap
i have a 85 trans am, i pulled the tired 305 out . I do not see putting any money in the 305. I bought a used 350, appears to be clean. Picked it up out of a wrecking yard. Wondering what you could tell me about the engine and what to expect horse power wise. I plan to run headers, flowmasters, performer intake and a holley carb , probably a 3310 750 vac sec/ The numbers on the motor are
10243880 and the heads are 14102183 , i took the intake off , and it looks like it has roller lifters to me.

I did not yank it out, it was sitting on the shelf, i paid 325 out the door for it, figured i could use it as a core if nothing else . Came with a 30 day guarantee. I've got it all cleaned up should be going in and starting in the next week or two.

Well even if it's not a ZZ4 you still got a good deal. And If it is a ZZ4, you got a rediculous deal. 350hp turnkey motors go for $5,300. And thats the low horsepower ZZ4. I think they go all the way up to 425hp.

Well, I couldn't tell you exactly what to look for, but here is some info on the ZZ4. Hope this helps. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-19201330/

great pickup.... take it apart and replace the crank/rod bearings at a minimum (if you weren't doing that already.. i would have it checked out at a local engine builder since you scored it so cheap, real buzzkill if you put it in and it blew up or was knocking/low compression.. you know? keep us updated please!

That block was used from 95-2000 as well as for the ZZ4 motors. The head casting number is probably 14102193, not 14102183, which is for the swirl-port TBI head, which would probably make this a 1995 350 TBI motor.
Here's a reality check: Does your motor have aluminum or iron heads?
