2.8 to a 350

The guy that gave me my bird has a 85 iroc with a 350 in it and e says it runs. But my 2.8 runs good and it may be a risk to do it. How much does it cost about to get this done at a shop

Alot, most shops do direct replacement type jobs, so the labor will be alot. Can you tackle a motor swap?

Sell your car and buy another one with a V8 in it already then.

No offense, but unless you're rich, this is not very plausible since you are not mechanically inclined.

BTW, going from a 2.8 to a 350 is a whole new world. There a lot of 'hidden' items with a V6 to V8 swap that makes it not really worth it unless you can do the labour yourself, like changing the suspension, K-member/V8 mounts, wiring, etc.

You're better off selling your 2.8 bird, cut your loses on it and buying a Formula or T/A already with a 350.

As in, "Our cars are unibody with a front subframe"?

LMAO

Drew, the chassis on the Firebird and Camaro are identical. They share the same doors, same basic body lines, look fairly similar, however the sheet-metal for the rear quarters is different which inhibits you from swapping Firebird tail-lights and bumper onto a Camaro, and vice-versa.

You CAN however, take the front end off the Camaro, and swap the entire Firebid front end onto it (Fenders, Hood, Bumper, etc) and make yourself a Trans-Marobird...and vice versa you can do the same to the Firebird, make it look like a Camaro in the front.

You can swap all the interior panels over from one another too. Certain things wont work though, example you CANT use a dashpad from a firebird in a Camaro and vice-versa. But the seats, entire dash and center console, carpet, door cards, sail panels, etc, all of that is interchangeable.

The wiring harnesses are not exactly the same either as the bird has controls/gauges/switches in slightly different positions then the Camaro and the under hood harness is mostly the same but also slightly different to accommodate the pop-up lights, etc.

BTW, the chassis or "frame" of our cars, it's called an F-body and it's built utilizing a unibody construction process. The "frame" is literally welded/fused together with the floor/sheet metal of the shell.

The point is, there is no "body" to take off of the "frame". You could drop the front subframe from one car and swap it to the other, but that's as close to a "frame/body swap" as you'll get.
