Hey guys
Going a different way with my Camaro for now and I have a question. I'm trading my 5.3 for a running 350/T5 combo. The motor is a pre-smog motor and what I'm wanting to know what motor mounts will work for it. I have the V6 mounts (3.1) still in the car, and I doubt they will work, but I don't know. Help?

Re: Hey guys
I'm sure a forum search will turn up part numbers, but your best bet is just to get a used set. Either grab them from somebody in the classifieds or find a junk yard that has some thirdgens.

Alright. Another thing, are the flywheels the same throughout the pre-smog era to say, 1990

Re: Hey guys
No. In 86 GM went to a 1-piece rear main seal that resulted in a different crank, which in turn requires a different flywheel. For your old motor, you need a 153 tooth flywheel for a 2-piece RMS style motor. At a parts store you would ask for a flywheel for an 85 Camaro.

What year is the engine? To me, "pre-smog" means 1965-earlier. You could make an argument that 1974-earlier is "pre-smog", since catalytic converters and unleaded gasoline started in 1975. But, even 1966-1974, there were certain "emissions control" pieces being incorporated. Compression ratios dropped dramatically in '72-'73 model years because of emissions.
I guess my point is better info than "pre-smog" would probably get you better answers. Although, once you start rebuilding, replacing, and upgrading, a block doesn't really care what it was when it came from the factory (although quality improved dramatically in the 80's).

Re: Hey guys
I was talking more around the lines of just before stuff got changed with the 350 too much for parts interchangeability to be limited.

Re: Hey guys
Hey guys, I have another question. As far as the trans mount goes, were they all the same between the T5/700R4? or am I going to need a different trans mount? I need to get one anyway because my old one was bent to **** due to one side having bolts broke off so I couldn't use it if I wanted to. Should've kept it to get the dimensions off of so I could make my own.

Re: Hey guys
Almost all parts ,internally and externally interchange back to 1955 ;
there were the noticeable upgrades / mods like the 1 pce crank ('86) or the Vortec heads ('96) but that does not preclude parts
being swapped from one year to another.
Even the GEN II LT1 is the same block size and shares many parts with the GEN1.
The GEN III LS series however are completely different
