swapping a 305 to a 360 69 block???

Ok, here it goes. Hopefully you all could be a great help to me, i am swapping my little 305 out and replacing it with a 360 (350 bored 60 over) out of a 69 vette. The motor has a whole forged bottom end and 327 ported and polished heads. The heads have bigger valves and stronger springs. I dont know exactly what kind of springs and valves but they are bigger than stock of course. My question would be if i could get this block to run with a TBI computer controlled unit?? Also were would i be able to get a prom chip for this kinda stuff?? I hope to have this motor up and running by May of this year, it is already put togather but i have to work out everything for the TBI swap. Is there an aftermarket TBI that i can actually find for a good price?? Also where can i put the Knock sensor at??

Thank you for any of your help and please also if you could help find me a nice size camshaft that i can run please let me know of one??

Lata

I don't think those old heads will have accessory holes. You might want to check.

you know after you said something about it, it comes out that you are right, damn that sucks. I will have to buy a set of 89 iroc heads and use those instead. Oh well stuff happens.

Some issues you need to figure out:
1) Driver's side dipstick on the 60's engine won't fit stock manifolds.(You probably wont be using stock manifolds anyway!)
2) Center two intake bolts to each head are a different angle on the TBI manifold (using an aftermarket pre '87 4bbl intake will solve this)
3) '85-prior engines used two-piece rear main seal, which will require a different flexplate/flywheel. (This can be solved by using the tranny that came with the engine ie.muncie,th350/400)
4)The starter probably will not bolt up. You'll need to drill a hole. get a machine shop to do it for you, it shouldn't cost alot.(Thats if you are going to use a newer starter, if you use the old one that is with the block and tranny, then this doesnt apply)

I already went through this cause my dad had a 283 lying around collecting dust so I wanted to swap out the 305, but it was too much of a hassle it seemed. Who knows maybe someday I will get around to it.

There is maybe a possibility of getting a different flexplate for your Th700r4 maybe to work with the older engine. Maybe try posting this under Motor Swap...you might get some better responses

easy, just get a flexplate for a 1985 V8 (305's and 350's can use the same flexplate, right??)
that way it will be cut for the 2 piece rear main and it will be for a 700R4

You know, I really couldn't tell ya...89 rs+ 2.8 700r4. I swapped the new tranny out of a 83 caprice....not one of the best years..27 spline....but so far I haven't had any problems. The older block has caused some problems when buying parts. I put a new starter on..it also bolted right up......just ask for the early model smc....the toughest thing about the whole swap was fabricating the power steering bracket....I took the radiator out of a 84 firebird...bolted right in..you have to change it because the inlet and outlet are on opposite sides on the v-6.
I guess i'm lucky..I live here in Iowa and no emmissions....so I went with a performer manifold with a 600 carb. Fit under the stock hood just fine. I had a total of 7 wires to hook up...wich left me about 7000 to cap and tuck away for now.
It was quite the project.....

i'm swapping from a V6 to a SBC soon with a carb.............
how did you get the fuel lines to fit???...........you put them into the AFPR and then took a line out of that into the carb?????
this will be my first time working with a carb..........how bad are they to tune?

there are 2 lines coming out on the drivers side...one is fuel from the tank..the other is a return line I believe the smaller line is from the tank..(.without going out to the garage to make sure) I bought a Malory 3 port from summit about 80.00. It is real easy to hook up. Line from tank to fpr line from frp to carb line from fpr to return...the return line is vented back to the charcoal cannister, drivers side front (vacuum lines every where) make sure the vent line is open and free........you have to bypass the fuel pump relay.....located between the rear seats against the wall..3 wires....you have to wire around this relay...just one hot wire..one ground...and I believe the other goes to the comp. run a wire from your ignition direct to the + from the fuel pump . just ground the ground back where it was just wire around the relay. It is really easy when you see it..alot easier than dropping the tank to remove the pump to use a mechanical..
Im running an edelbrock 600...I have had no problem keeping it tuned.just set your fpr to 5-7 lbs. I know this is kinda vague. If you need more help let me know . I can email you some pics to help you out. Search the board here....there are some really sharp guys here that are more than eager to help. Good luck.
Ron
