bmr k member work with blackheart trans mount

Does any one know if the k member will match up with the trans mount. I have all the parts just don't want any surprises going together.

Re: bmr k member work with blackheart trans mount

to use the holley cross member you need to have the engine move forward slightly. i have used the bmr x-member at one point and that cross member seemed to move the ls engine higher and to the rear which would be a problem

i have used the holley x-member successfully with the UMI k member although i did modify the bolt on engine mount slightly

I would be surprised if you didn't experience compatibility issues with that parts combination since the Hooker crossmember was designed to work specifically with the Hooker engine mounting brackets, which are the only mounting brackets I'm aware of that move the engine/trans mating plane forward in the chassis slightly like GM did when they put the LS engine in the 4th-gen F-body.

Well iv put thought into it an the mount and adapter are slotted so there is wiggle room, If there is an issue with the engine being to far back i could try the 4l80e adapter which is longer.

Also having a custom adapter made wouldn't be that hard.

Yes, the fact that you are using a 4L80 will give you leeway that is not available to T56 users since the case of that transmission extends below the crossmember and is only about 1/2” away from the crossbeam when using the Hooker engine mounting brackets. You may get a there.

you can definitely do it with a T-56... here is how I went about it with a UMI K Member, LS3 and T-56 magnum with a 4th gen tail housing and even used a UMI tubular torque arm...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-ls3-swap.html

yes you need to make sure the engine is moved forward. relatively easy to do with the UMI as you can adjust the motor position with the motor mount adapters that bolt to the overall UMI k member

it has really worked great and is a blast to drive. no body contact, etc of the transmission, engine, exhaust with this set-up.

I now have one in process using a SBC / LT1 T56 with UMI K member and again am using the Holley cross member. I have everything all mounted in the car and only needed to slightly lengthen the holley trans mount slots to get it to work (ie on the SBC you don't have the adapter plate to k member like on the LS so after getting everything in place I just adapted slightly the holley piece in this instance

As you have noted, the ability of the Hooker transmission crossmember to work with engine mounts other than the Hooker mounts it was designed with is fully dependent on the fore/aft engine position provided by the specific mounts in question. If they are designed to locate the engine/transmission mating plane in the stock SB location only, then they will not be compatible with the Hooker crossmember. I'm glad it worked out for you.

Re: bmr k member work with blackheart trans mount

I'm at the point of finishing up the install, tomorrow I'm going to have a custom adapter made to go from the trans to the crossmember with the bmr k-member and a 4l60e the bolts for the mount pad land right in front of the crossmember about an inch back and a half inch higher then the supplied 4l60e adapter. so basically the same shape minus the drop down with the bolt holes closer to the trans mount, the drive line angle still looks good but my big question is how to reuse the factory torque arm as there is no such mount on a 4l60e and the stock clam shell does not fit. Holly has no info about the torque arm situation.

Found this 6 bolt version. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4L60E-Exten...-/112574980944

I'm going to bolt in the stock crossmember to see how far off i am from the stock location.

Is there a reason you can’t use the torque arm mount bracket that is welded to the Hooker crossmember and the included hat bracket? It is there so you can divorce the arm from the transmission.

Re: bmr k member work with blackheart trans mount

Did you have trouble with space between the engine and hvac box because I don't have room to mount coils. Or is the problem with the bmr unit?

There’s no clearance issue when using the Hooker engine mounting brackets, so I assume your engine brackets position the engine further back.

Re: bmr k member work with blackheart trans mount

I have the transmission mount sorted out what i'm wondering is if anyone else has used the bmr ls k member because the space issue is being caused by the k member, nothing hooker related.
