I need clarification on engine mounts for a 2.8 to 5.7 swap
Hello all,
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the differences are between the engine mounts on a 2.8L and a V8 camaro. I'm trying to swap my 84 2.8L car with a Gen 1 small block 350. I know I'll have to remove the engine mounts from the K-member and move them to the forward most position for proper alignment with the V8. Obviously I will need new engine mount inserts. My question however, (and this is where I'll probably sound like an idiot) is can I use the same bracket that was bolted onto the K-member of the 2.8L car for the V8?
I ASSUME that the brackets for the V6 and V8 are different, however I could not find any clear confirmation of this. I searched the forums on here regarding 2.8L engine swaps, and any mention of engine mounts that I found just says remove the mounts from the K-member and move them to the forward most position. This leads me to believe it may be possible to use the existing brackets rather than trying to hunt down a V8 car to rip engine mount brackets off of.
Someone please tell me what's what. If I have to hunt down a V8 car to rip brackets off of that could seriously slow down my progress as there are NO salvage yards out here in the boonies that have anything older than 1996.
Any guidance on this would be truly appreciated!

Throw away the V6 mounts, and get V8 mounts. They're completely different, not a single piece interchanges.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the confirmation, and sorry for the dumb question.
I'll have too see if I can hunt down some v8 brackets. Thanks again!

If you can't find the V8 'clam-shells' locally I've got a couple pair for sale. BE SURE that you use the engine mount clam-shells on the correct side of the block; There is a LEFT and a RIGHT side !

John,
Please forgive my ignorance here, does that include the bracket that bolts to the K-member? I think I've got a lead on the clam shells but from my understanding there is a bracket on the k-member that they attach to

The piece that gets bolted to the K member is the "engine mount". The piece that gets bolted to the engine is the "clam-shell". I'd recommend buying new engine mounts rather than installing used parts.

Dude, new ones are available for 5 bucks each, and made in USA.
The engine mount brackets are side-specific and will have to come from a donor car AFAIK...

Got it, basically I knew what everything was just not the proper terminology. Thanks for the help, I'm usually not this clueless I swear! Lol
I read on one of the other threads that the mounts are hard to come by and probably not available aftermarket. but maybe I'll just go talk to the guys at the parts desk and see if I can at least get a part number and go from there.
Thanks again!

You also need the brake line from a V-8 it is bent different.
The V-6 line is right in the place where the mount goes.

Dyno don,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was aware of the brake line but I'm not too worried about that. If I cant find it pre-bent aftermarket for some reason I can bend my own, I have some experience with that.
