350TPI Engine Swap wiring

Hello, I am currently in the process of swapping a 350 TPI into my 1991 RS from the 305. I am in need of a wiring harness for the motor to replace the factory one that is cut. I found a standalone harness on Classic Industries and was wondering if that would be a viable option?

This is the link: https://www.classicindustries.com/pr...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

If I am to purchase this harness, is there anything else I would need to go along with it or is it plug and play? I do fortunately have the ECM from the original car that the 350 is from. The ECM and motor are out of a 1992 Z28.

60203 is longer and would probably go through the fender pass through hole. If you want a 60103 check this out
https://tunedperformance.org/store/p...pi-harness-ecm
you could always get a used 90-92 tpi or tbi harness. The tbi harness can be repinned to the 730 ecm. You still should use the Vss buffer from tbi and optical input of the 730 to get tcc and speedometer to work.

What are the differences between the 60203 and the 601? Just length?

Interesting. I am very green to working on cars and have quite the project ahead of me. Thank you for the info! I’ll likely go with the 60203 to give myself some extra length

Just remember it’s a stand alone no emissions harness

Yeah I wasn’t planning on putting the emissions equipment back into the car which will likely turn into a whole other mess of issues for me to figure out. Is there anything else I’d need with that harness? Or is it pretty much just plug and play with the ecm?

It’s plug and play on the engine. Tap into c100 fuel pump lead and c207 I ecm power to do a clean install

Do you think I am better off trying to find a used OEM harness out of an 89-92? I found one on ebay as well as Hawk's. I am very green to cars and am just worried I will not be able to figure out the painless harness as I have seen some people say it gets complicated.

Re: 350TPI Engine Swap wiring

89 is tpi maf, 90-92 uses the 1227730 and is speed density. Not sure what to recommend. A used harness can be hit or miss with broken connector and cut wires.

Yeah that was my thought. I don’t want to buy a used harness and have it not work, but I’ve also seen people say the Painless harness can be difficult. The engine is out a ‘92 Z28 and the vehicle I’m putting it into is a ‘91 RS.

Re: 350TPI Engine Swap wiring

At summit racing you can view the installation manual. It’s pretty straightforward. But to get the Vss signal to the ecm with the tbi you had you can build a standalone harness with the Vss buffer and optical input on the 730 ecm. Really not that hard but not sure your ability 🤷‍♂️

Would not say my ability is very strong but I guess we will find out lol. Maybe it’s worth mentioning that the car already has the z28 higher speed gauge cluster in it. Would I still need to reuse the VSS from the TBI harness?

Re: 350TPI Engine Swap wiring

The speedometer gets a Vss signal from the yellow buffer box through c207 connector. The ecm also needs a signal through its optical input so the programming flag needs to be switched. If it was my car I’d strip the Vss and buffer wiring and reinstall

Do you know off the top of your head if there are any videos or tutorials on how to go about making that swap?

Re: 350TPI Engine Swap wiring

I would recommend that you buy a used shop manual for your year Camaro. It is a great help when doing swaps.

Good Luck,
Fred

My father actually gave me both of his when I got the car. I have the 1991 Camaro service manual and the general 82-92 automotive repair manual from Haynes
