L98 to LT1

Have a 1988 IROC w/ a blown-up 5.7 can get a rebuilt long block for $850. Or I can get an LT1 (Spun Bearing) out of a 1993 Corvette, minus intake. Can I get the the stock 1988 TPI to bolt on to the 1993 LT1 block and Aluminum Heads? Please Help , I have a buddy that said I can't but I just want to make sure. Also what is the above listed LT1 worth.

Thanks, Garrett

ya you can put the TPI intake on the LT1 but it will really choke it if the TPI is stock. You will need to put new holes in the TPI base as the intake bolt holes are different on the LT1. Used LT1 intakes use to go for $50. You can get a new LT4 intake for $200 if you want to upgrade from your TPI intake later.

Umm, no you can't put the TPI intake on the LT1 block. The heads are reverse cooled meaning there are no water ports on the heads, so you'd have to seal up that TPI manifold pretty good. Just find and LT1 intake and fuel rails on CamaroZ28.com for about $200 complete, sometimes less $. And do a full swapover. If you're not into doing a lot of custom stuff, then just rebuild your L98 block.

I have seen complete running lt1s for 1200 dollars at speedautomotive before. That included the complete engine, harness, computer and full accessories. Why mess with a spun bearing, unless its cheap or free.

Um yes you can. If no coolant flows through the LT1 intake then there is nothing to seal up on the L98 Intake. The coolant passage will be empty and the thermostat housing will be blocked off since there is no use for it.

Why would you want to do that? The engine is designed to run upstairs, if you put a tpi on it you may get it to run, but it will run like crap and look worse.

It will run like a L98. The cams aren't too different.

Tas, why in the heck would you want port MISMATCH, the requirement of drilling new bolt holes, and a more expensive water pump replacement? You can do anything but c'mon

The ports match up. That's how people are putting LT1 intakes on L98s now. http://www.lt1intake.com/
