Question on all Those air tubes...
If I take off the air pump and all the hoses, cut and seal the air tubes on the manifold, what else needs to be done?
Its a 1983 so it is beyond emission test so I'm not to worried about that.
Any Ideas or Thoughts?
Thanks
Mike

I would check the tube to the cat, and try to take out the tubes. If you do a search you will find the sizes of the holes and what kind of plugs to use. I can't remember. I would also just remove the cat since you don't need it as well.

once you cut the tubes, just slide a deep well socket on there and take them off. that's the easiest way to get them off.
then go to a good parts store (like NAPA or even a plumbing debt of like Menard's or Lowe's) and get Flare plugs for 1/4" pipe.
just know that flare fittings and plugs are based on the size of the pipe they go on, not the actual size of the threads or the size wrench you use.
i figured i'd tell you that cause otherwise you'd be thinkin' "1/4" is way too small"

Thanks for the help.
One more question though, Will doing this have any affect on my O2 sensor?
Thanks again

by the time the ECM is in closed loop, it tells the diverter to send all the air to the cat. the O2 sensor has no way of getting the air once it's pumped into the cat.
you sound like I did before I did mine. it seems too good to be true, but don't worry. it is true, and it is good. No codes, no drivability problems, no loss in MPG, nothing has gone wrong.

Don't get the mirth AJ. If you remove the air tubes on the headers and get air leaking past the plugged holes on the driver's side header, it will mess with your O2 reading and the car will think it is running lean plain and simple.
So did I misunderstand the question, or did you misunderstand what I was saying?

Well I got about half of it done, I cpped the plug on the Cat and took most of the AIR system out. I capped the main tubes coming out of the manifold.
Weekend project is to plug the holes with the plugs and remove the rest of the AIR stuff from the engine
Then open-air element to better here that 4 barrel
Thanks for the help

I just took mine off tonight, and it really cleaned up the engine compartment. Now all I gotta do is get headers so the AIR tubes aren't in the way.
