I need Ideas on an exhaust
Right now I have the stock exhaust off of a 82 cfi engine. Can anyone give me some I deas on a good exhaust setup for my setup, because hookers exhaust says it wont fit my car, and the same with flow master. Also I do not need a cat converter. thanks

Well, first of all, how deep are your pockets?
I'm guessing here, but I wonder if the reason no one seems to make a cat-back for an '82 is that GM changed cat designs after '82 and they don't want to offer a "one year only" system. If that's the case, and you don't need a cat, you could use several different systems, I believe. You could contact Hooker or Flowmaster and ask them... You didn't mention if you wanted headers, but if you do, with your engine combination, I think I would use a 1-3/4" primary diameter. If I understand you correctly, you're not looking for a dual setup, so I would go with a shorty header with 3" Y-pipe and run a straight pipe into a 3" cat-back of your choice. One more thing - I believe you get what you pay for, headers are no exception. I would buy the best you can afford, and I like the idea of ceramic coating, quality gaskets(aluminum or copper) and fasteners. Hope I've helped you. Good Luck,
Brian

Brian I do want to use headers, and I can not find anyone who makes a 3 inch y pipe only 2.5. Whats the best sounding and best flowing exhaust and, I have heard that 1 5/8 primaries would still work well with my car is this true? thanks

Check out SLP. I don't remember for sure but I think their Y-pipe is 3# because if you buy the cat adapter it narrows down to 2.25"
They are pricey.

yes slp is too expensive and I do not need emissions legal products and I beleive there y pipe is only 2.5 too. I guess I could run a 2.5 y pipe and then put a cut out right after it.

If you want to use a 1-5/8 primary header, I really don't think they'll hurt you, I just thought that your combination leans toward 1-3/4". It's kind of a judgement call. Also, Edelbrock for one offers a 3" Y-pipe on their Tubular Exhaust System, now I realize you said you aren't concerned with emissions, that was just an example. I thought Hooker and Hedman both had a 3" Y-pipe on some of their headers, have you looked into Hedman #500-17470 Y-pipe for #500-68470 headers? I wanted to find out more, but all of a sudden I can't open the pop-ups on Summit or Jegs, WTF?
Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for.
