Hey dude, I have a 1991 Z28 5.7 TPI (L98) with 245 HP and 345 pounds of torque. I'm running FLowmaster 80 series.....they are supposed to give you a bit more horsepower......there isn't to much restriction with the 80 series. They sound MUCH louder on 5.7's then 5.0's.....nothing against 5.0's....there great engines as well. But...yeah...do some research if you want....but I love the flowmaster. Good Luck

What makes them sound any better on a 5.7? 5.0s with dual cats have the same cam, manifolds, cats, catback so what is the difference? And if you're only looking for power Flowmaster is not the best choice. They don't flow nearly as well as the hooker and dynomax systems.

Well.....unless my 1991 Z 5.7 TPI (L98) has a different cam in it or something.....I know a bunch of guys that have the 305 TPI dual cat set up....and they don't sound near as deep or near as loud as a 5.7.......the only thing that is really different is the bore.....I have a couple of friends with the 5.7 TPI and they all sound much deeper and much louder then the 305 TPI's (dual cat)....and again.....nothing against the 305's....there great engines.

Ok, dynomax isnt really that great of an exhaust system, #2 a 350 is bigger than the 305 so its going to put out more of an exhaust tone than a 305.

Oh crap, here we go again. Another 305 vs 350 war.

I'm gonna keep my mouth shut. Later!

correct me if im wrong... but wouldnt a set of aftermarket headers do much more than a catback exhaust? for a moderately larger investment id say youll see real power gains over a catback setup.

If i had a choice between the 2, id pick headers. They wake those cars up. But since its the most expensive bolt-on, its gonna have to be second choice for me.

But if talk about power gains, headers should give u more power than cat-back i believe.

on my 88 iroc-z 5.7 i had a dynomax muffler and on my 88 formula 350 i had a flowmaster muffler.

both cars had about the same amount of miles and ran about the same times in the 1/4 mile, but the formula was definitely alittle louder than the iroc at really any rpm..

What makes it sound different/better?? 45 more ci. of course. And Flowmaster flows plenty good, definetly enough for any stock or near stock 305 or 350 or more even. Amazing how people buy what manufacturers say. When I start seeing fast cars at the track and shows use something other than Flowmaster, maybe I'll listen.

Yeah I see what you guys are sayin. Bigger engine, better sound, makes sense. And yeah IrocTwentyGR8, there are a lot of really fast cars with flowmasters, too bad mine isn't one of them.

In terms of power or sound? Power, a couple horsepower, nothing crazy but every bit helps . Sound, a little louder and more rumbly, I think the cat dampens some of that out, but not a 100% sure. Do you have to pass smog, cause that's the only thing stopping me from hollowing mine out and running a pipe through it.
