Removing A.I.R. equipment
Since I am in the process of rebuilding the motor in my 88 IROC I was wondering how much of a difference it would make in my emissions if I removed the A.I.R. pipes and related parts. If I do remove the A.I.R. manifolds I have some other ones to use so as to make it easier to convert it back later.

the way i understand it, it only robs around 5-7 hp. if you dont have emissions where you are, yank it out. i would pull mine out, but i have hardcore sniffers in nj.

I dont know how much it does for emissions, but I can sure get to the plugs and plugwires now. I removed my a/c compressor and my smog pump. And the a.i.r tubes are history.

If you have the time I would, but I removed mine when I installed my headders. Just make sure you seal the manifolds up, the sound gets old after a while.

You will have to get a shorter belt. You can also remove the a/c compressor and its componets. But you will have to have a a/c delete pulley from GM.

I would prefer to keep my heating and AC capablities, so I won't go quite that far. However, when I was checking it all out yesterday, it looked as though there was some hose coming out of the back of the serpentine setup (not sure of the component), but can I just plug that hose or something (although it looks like I'll need something the size of a golf ball to do it)?
