i just ran across flowmasters low profile mufflers on their website, does anyone have these or at least know anyone that does and whats the clearance like for duals, and how do they sound.

How thick are they? I'm doin duals soon, and was goin to get some aero chamber mufflers, but I may need a very thin muffler.

Mark- If you need a real thin muffler due to ground clearance I'd go with Spintech's "Cruiser Series"- they are 2 1/4" thick. I am getting my Spintech crossflow muffler soon for my '89 IROC-Z, they aren't as big as flow or hooker, but I sure have heard good things about them. They use a different design inside than others. Check 'em out. -89IRO

how do they sound compared to the orinagal 40 series flowmasters??

If you're talking about the Spintech's I don't know because I've never heard a low profile one in person not even a regular Spintech for that matter. On their website I think they list the DBA level of them. -89IRO

I've just heard people say that Spintech's have a much "cleaner" and not so choppy sound as flow. But they are still loud and nice and rumbly! -89IRO

True- but it's a **** load of a better piece than flow. Flows are all mass-produced while Spintechs are all custom. They were origionally racing mufflers, which they still are, but now they also build street mufflers. I've heard cars, where guys, put one of the racing mufflers on the car and it is louder than any "cat back flow or hooker." -89IRO

i only paid 60$ each for my flows but it would be nice to have a very thin muffler like that. Maybe Ill go with those as my next mufflers....are the stainless? I need something that can take alittle abuse

those spintechs look half as thick as my flows...that would help ALOT if your running true duals..hell you might even be able to take a speed bump with those

Guess I am that cheap, I wasn't goin to get a flow anyways, aero chamber actually at $50 a piece, so that is $80 more a piece, making it $160 more.

I don't know about you, but that's quite a bit to a college student who still has to order a new carb and coated headers.
After I just bought some aluminum heads.

Wow, i didn't realize most mufflers seem to be 4 3/4 so yeah the Spintech may be worth it, I'd just have to run open headers for awhile , so I can save up some $.

Hey Mark I know what you mean, I'm still in High School without a job. In your case, to me and extra $160 may be worth it for those mufflers since they are thinner and you won't beat the hell out of them like you would a thicker muffler. Plus, in my opinion, Spintechs are built better than anything else out there. -89IRO

TBI- If I'm not mistaking, you can get any of their muffler in 304 SS for an additional cost. -89IRO

Oh, I forgot to say for all you dual exhaust guys, Spintech makes 3" oval pipe for ground clearance with your pipe too. I don't know if that would help any though sice our cars sit pretty low. -89IRO

do they make 2.5'' oval piping?

check out dr gas they have some trick stuff there. what would you do about the s-bends tho??? a joe blow exhaust shop cant bend oval piping i bet

I dont' think there's much difference between oval flow and round flow..

No, I wouldn't think so. Only advantage of oval is for ground clearance issues. -89IRO

Anyone know how these things flow? it says used primarily for street use, not designed for racing which leads me to believe these things dont flow very well. What's everyone opinion on this?

If you're running them on duals, you shouldn't have any problems when it comes to flowing. Maybe they say that because they were just designed for street use. I'm going with Spintech's 343SC muffler (crossflow), but if there is a better flowmaster low profile for you guys, go for it. I just want to be different from everyone. -89IRO

Spintech is louder and not hollow sounding. Friend of mine did the switch last year away from flowmasters.
