suggested headers?

i'm interested in getting headers for my car. i was gonna pick some cheapies up, but the local exhaust shop said that most headers are a pain in the a** because they always leak and the gaskets keep leaking...
said the performance boost wasnt worth it...

but if i still wanted to get headers, to go for good well made headers...

i have an 87 iroc with a 350 tpi, and a borg t-5, no cat.

what would you guys suggest? i want something that sounds good, works good and isnt too big of a pain to install. price is a consideration, but will not be the determining factor when it comes to this.

thanx guys

SLP headers are the best. I recommend anything but Edelcrock. Try Hooker or Hedman if you dont like SLP's price.

What's the beef with edlebrock? I am looking into a set for the same application as mentioned and it seems like edlebrock is the only manufacturer selling a complete bolt on kit. Personally, I think SLP are way to much $$ considering they're not even ceramic coated, just rust proof. Heddman looks to have some good coated versions, 500-68476 in jegs($312), but a y-pipe isn't included; is a 3 incher availible? Any other stainless or coated options?

Hooker has a great non emissions set for $150. I got the emissions certified versions(50- state legal) that go from $320 to $375 depending on the deal.

The "beef" is because the Edelschmucks cost $330 (similar to Hooker's and Hedmans, and all 50-state legal), yet have half the primaries at 1-1/2" and the other four at 1-5/8". Why waste money on smaller primaries when you can get all of them at 1-5/8. And no, the dual primary size doesn't promote TQ at all, if it did then most would opt for dual sized ports/valves too.

Oh btw, SLP 1-3/4 headers coated by Paul Barry are the best.

I haven't seen that Hooker non-emissions set yet, are you talking about the Competition Headers? Do they come with the y-pipe?

I'm leaning towards Hooker Super Comp Shorties (50 State Legal), just because I like Hookers, Heddmans have too weak flanges, and I don't want LT's because I'm going to lower the car. I don't want to do shorties without a y-pipe because I don't want to get charged out the a$$ for an exhaust shop to build me one...

What a dilemma...

I read somewhere that Edelbrocks hang down too far causing problems with ground clearance.

SLP's are only $350, but you gotta get install kits and all that kinda ****. ends up being like $450 complete,
I think the funniest thing is that you have to buy the instructions

I have Edelbrock headers on my 87 IROC, and they are excellent. my car was like night and day after i installed them. they fit perfect and never hit the ground. (my car is lowered 1.5" too) i'm sure the SLP and hooker headers are also just as great for your car if not better. i would definitely recommend putting a set on, regardless of the brand! -i'd just like to meet up with the GM CEO that decided to put restrictive *** exhaust manifolds on a TPI sports car!!

Definitely go for the SLP 1 3/4" headers on the 350 single cat.
