Smoke!!
Hey guys, i have an 88 iroc Z28 convertible and have a little problem with my exhaust. I just recently bought the car a week ago and have noticed that there's white smoke coming from the tips constantly. At startup it's visible, but eventually it dies down to the point where u have to look a little harder to see the smoke but it's still there. Any ideas of how to fix it? I was thinking maybe the oil needs to be changed, which I was going to do next week sometime, and if that wouldn't work then what could it be? any help will be appreciated, thanks
I think white smoke is coolant getting into the chamber. I hope its only a bad gasket and not a cracked head or something. Go ask on the general tech board.

smoke at all(white) means water/coolant is being burned. check your oil and see if it is creamy colored after its running) also check your coolant.more than likely it is a gasket, but could be somthing worse. check it or get it check to make sure! it does not apply but i had to replace a $10,000.00 diesel engine because of bad oil/ coolant in it. just do a rad pressure test, i think that will cover it.........but not positive! (im ****ed now at 3 am)

Ok so how do i perform these tests. The car was actually low on coolant when i bought it and put some more in earlier in the day. Could it be possible that the coolant still hasn't gone through the engine yet because the car sits in my driveway due to lack of plates and i only start it in times of need. But if thats not it could someone explain how to perform the tests or a website/manual that does? thanks guys, been a great help
If you have a 305 in your car you can just calm down. I have yet to see a 305 that doesnt smoke. All the valve seals leak all the time thats what the smoke is. trust me. Try changing your oil to synthetic it will help the smoke cause synthetic doesnt burn.

Ok that soothes me a little, the car is the 5.0L TPI 305. The previous owner SAYS he put synthetic oil into the car in November, but I'm going to change the oil and oil filter to Mobil 1 synthetic and K&N def before the end of the week. Can i still pass emissions testing with this smoke? thats the real concern that i have
hey bad... if it smokes all the time even? as he stated? normally if the seals leak it gives a cloud at startup, but goes away when all the oil is burnt off. and if it was oil smoke would it be a bluish color? or greyish? but white is water isnt it? pretty sure it is. i am no genius though!
