Pipe sizes ? Please save my sanity.
Please save my sanity. The guy at the exhaust shop is ordering me a 3 inch pipe for between the cat and the muffler. I measured the pipe, and it is 3 inches in the middle and 2 3/4 near the ends (like a foot away from the ends). And it goes INTO a 2 1/2 inch muffler clamp. Also, the 3 inch pipe has an indentation in it which brings it down to a 3 inch x 2 inch where it goes over a suspension part just before the muffler. Is this what a 3 inch pipe behaves like ? Also, how do you measure an exh pipe? I've been using a c clamp.

Who is this shop getting this piece from? It sounds homemade. I would recommend canceling your order and getting a quality name 3" cat-back from Summit or other source. It will come with a 3" in/out muffler also.
Measuring with a c clamp is ok, or you can measure the diameter with a string or cloth tape measure and divide it by PI (3.14....).

It's a Mieneke shop, and the guy told me the name of the company he was ordering from, but I have forgotten it. I had heard of it before, though. It wasn't one of those you mentioned. He is charging $100 parts and labor total. Midas wanted $195 for the same.

Prices vary. Off the top of my head, Summit sells the Flowmaster American Thunder system for about $230.00. The Edelbrock is $275 or so. I don't know the price for the Hooker or Dynomax.

C=pi*d
circumferance=pi times the diameter
d=C/pi
get a tape measure and you can find any circular diameter measurement.
My 3" Dynomax pipe does not act like this. The only place that it is not 3" is over the axle where it has a small flat spot. Just get a whole catback. I wish I did.

Midas can charge more because they mandrel bend (atleast up here they do) so they can be better for custom exhaust, but like others say no indentation or kinks, I would cancel and get a catback, you can install in your drive way to save money or get someone reputable at and exhaust shop to install.
