I assume you're talking about the shortie Super Comps, 2055's, since you're talking about them being an alternative to TES.

They aren't perfect as delivered. The collector is a ball flange to the y-pipe, and the opening in the ball is a whopping 1.9". I emailed Hooker about that, their response was something to the effect that it was that small to help promote sealing, that it didn't affect performance since the gasses have slowed down by the time they get to the collector. Right. I took that as an attempt to justify a compromise in design. So, I did a fit check of the y-pipe, and opened up that flange to about 2-3/8".

I did the install as part of the mods in my sig, so I had the engine out. I put the headers on the engine before re-installing it, then mounted the y-pipe. It wasn't a perfect fit, the y-pipe being wider than the collectors as installed. I made it work, but it could have been better. Not sure if my other aftermarket parts affected the fit, but they shouldn't have.

Spark plug fit is tight. I used Accel short plugs. Had to get another wire for cylinder #3 (stock LG4 is straight boot, requires 90 degree with the headers).

I also stripped the factory paint and used DEI 1500 degree paint (from Summit). Stinks at first, but looks pretty good now that it's cured. Bud here used that paint on his manifolds 5 years ago, look as good today as my fresh job.

The end result is nice, but getting there wasn't exactly a bolt-in (but, there's no such thing as a bolt-in).

Not to jump in on the post but, 5.7, are the hookers quiet or do they sound like headders?

Since I did the whole thing in one fell swoop, it's hard to say exactly what affected what. Compared to the factory LG4 manifolds & cat with the 2.5" GTA catback I had on it before, it is definately louder with a nice growl to it. Gets kinda pingy-sounding when you really get on it (some have described it as tinny). Typical Flowmaster. I would guess the muffler has more to do with the tone than the headers. But, the headers probably have a lot to do with the way it runs (which is great).

Should have said I did the y-pipe fit check in order to center the opening of the ball flange on the downpipe as I opened it up. Diegrinder was worthless (that ball flange material is hard!), finally used a 3.5" high-speed electric angle grinder to do the job. Oh, I only opened them up to slightly over 2-1/4", about the ID of the 2-1/2" OD downpipes. (must be getting tired).

I just used the Hooker Shorties, part 2046 I think. You need to get collectors and a y-pipe with them but they work great. Louder than the factory manifolds but that is the way headers are. It is nothing major. I use a Walker Quiet Flow muffler and it is pretty quiet until you step on it. Even then it is quieter than almost any other performance muffler because that is the way they designed it. I like it a lot and wouldn't mind if it were only half as loud as it is.

But I'm 43 and that how you get to be after all these years

i got the hookers on the firebird and just with the stock mufflers the car is pretty loud. It's kinda nice when you have to pick up a friend they can hear ya coming from around the corner so they get out of their house so you don't have to get out of the car! I recommend these, good for the price also.
