Ordered 4in mufflex with spintech muffler today

Anyone have any experience with this setup? How does it sound? THey guy at mufflex told me it would be a little more quit than the system with the flowmaster race muffler. Any comments on the 4in mufflex with spintech muffler?

I'm happy with my spintech but it's only a 3 inch.. Gains over the stock system were noticeable. My buddy's car ('68 firebird w/454) has dual 3 inch spintechs that dump before the rear axle and sounds very nice.

Joe, I run the Mufflex 3.5" with the SpinTech. I like sound very much. I replaced a 3" with a 2 chamber Flow and no cat like what you're doing. I added a 3.5" RandomTech converter. It sounds just as loud and has a much better tone with the Mufflex system. That 4" will be very loud, especially without a cat. IMHO, your new system is much better suited to that RamJet 430 in your future, than your present L98. It will rock!

LilJayV10, The price is about $450. Clearance is no problem, even lowered. Fit and finish is very good. It's not SS, it's aluminized.

Heh it's going to be quiter than your flowmaster setup?
HAHAHAA
I run a 4" mufflex with a spintech and a str8 pipe for cats.

It's louder than my buddys 88lx 5.0 with mac exhaust headers gutted cats and h-pipe
At wot, at idle it's frightingly discreet.

Got this thing in the mail today. Geez, this system is freaking HUUUUGGE!! I new it was gonna look big, but I opened that box and about $hit myself. I was wondering if they mistakenly sent me an exhaust kit for a 379 Peterbuilt or something. THe spintech muffler is freakin awesome. I havent ever seen a muffler like this thing before. Cant wait to get it on and see what it all sounds like with the LT4-Hot Cam in! Ill keep you posted.

Well, I don't have the spintech.. I have the 4"inch race FM. Ground clearance sucks for me.. but it sounds pretty wicked.

One thing you might want to do is have a muffler shop put it on for you, unless you have access to a welder and a lift. Reason being is that this big *** motha hangs low. Your best bet is to cut the intermediate pipe where it meets the pipe that goes over the rear end. Also, custom hangers will work better than the original ones. When I got mine done the exhaust sat low all around. Now the I have lots of clearence under the car and you cant even see the muffler on mine.

Oh yeah, you'll love the sound!!!!

thanks.. I was beginning to wonder if it was me or what.

The motor is a 400 with 10.8 to 1, a set of Brodix Track1 heads, a Cam-moton custom hyd-roller with about .600 lift and 240 duration (at 050"). Full-length super comps with 3"inch pipes into a 4" flowmaster y.

Its going to go on a dynojet before long.

I have probably close to $600 in the exhaust not counting headers. Ground clearance would be better if the Y pipe was located under the crossmember better at a thinner/flatter point (of the Y).

The TA pictured is for 4th gens ... NOT third gens. If you go with long tubes then you cannot use the Spohn 700R4 TA system without doing custom work to the mufflex Y-pipe. Furthermore, you will lose A LOT of ground clearance if you try to run long tubes with a Spohn 700R4 TA. I have heard that the TH400 TA system fits a lot better.

The Mufflex Y-pipe is a dual 3" to a single 4". It is NOT for a dual exhaust setup.

Long tubes is the most expensive exhaust option. Long tubes + coating + Mufflex Y comes in at close to $1000. But, there is absolutely no other option for high power and big cube setups.

Traxion is right! I emailed SPOHN to see if they will be offering a 3rd gen version of this TA for 5 speeds and autos.

Trax, I have my LTs in and most all the bugs worked out, how is it going with installing them on your car?

Phil,

Honestly - its just too friggin' cold for me to work on the car right now. I am in the process of accumulating more parts and will commence to do most of the work in march when it is starting to warm up a bit. Parts include CC 'R' Lifters, Quick Ratio Flaming River Manual Steering box, Don Barnett custom fabbed blower/alt bracket, Meziere Electric Water Pump, and 4" Mufflex. The headers will be sent off to the coaters very soon. Once I actually begin the install you can bet that I'll post here. I already compiled a list of things that I will run into from talking to several other long tube owners (and I think I already posted this in another post a long time ago). Should be a pretty straightforward install since I already have a ministarter. I also already relocated the knock sensor to the driver's side. ES poly mounts have been installed and the headers already have the O2 bungs welded on the top of the collector (the best place for a thirdgen with long tubes).
