LS1 Exhaust on a 3rd gen???
LS1 Exhaust on a 3rd gen???
Anyone ever attempted this? I have an 01 SS M6 with the entire factory exhaust from manifold/cats to tailpipe stored away. Only thing is I had to cut it at the axle to get it off. I believe an adaptor would reconnect the two back together. Anyway, I bought a 1990 IROC ATM 5.7 a few weeks ago that has true duals up to the back of the transmission and then headers. It's missing what would theoretically be the "Y" section of the exhaust, a muffler (unless you consider Supertraps as mufflers
) and the cats. I would like to replace what's currently there with all my LS1 exhaust. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with that before I made the attempt this weekend.
Thanks

Im sure if you were willing to fabricate a little it might work....what kind of headers are they? shortie or full length(longtube)?? If you took it to a good exhaust shop, Im sure they could get it to work.....dont know about the cats though(if you were planning on using them) and doesnt the LS1 exhaust have provisions for 4 02 sensors? Im not sure if it would work....all you could do is try....sorry I couldnt tell ya more..
Don't be sorry, opinions are very appreciated. I've worked with exhaust (not fabricating) so any kind of reply will help. Don't know what kind of headers they are but they are shorties. What I was thinking was just leaving the headers out and go with the LS1 manifold/cats. They're supposed to flow as good as a shorty some say even a mid-length. I believe the LT1 had 4 o2's I think the LS1 only has 2 (I will double check that).
I'm sure the catback would work with a little bit of fabrication, either shortening or lengthening the I-pipe, I don't remember which, but I really doubt you will get the manifolds, y-pipe to work at all.

I can tell ya that the manifolds wont come close to working. The reason I say that is the LS1 has its exhaust ports spaced out differently than the GenI block. They kinda look like a BBC. I looked at an LS1 trans am this morning at work and I think youll be able to get the Ypipe to work with some fab work. It will hang a little lower on the drivers side though, because of where it comes out farther than the 3rd gen ypipe. I think the cats will work too if you plumb one of the AIR lines over to it.........Good luck..

With some fabrication you might get the y-pipe to work with your long tube headers, as stated above the manifolds are a no go. The rear part of the exhaust is basically the same, with exception to the hangers.
