hedman y-pipe fitment problems

has anybody had a problem with the hedman y-pipe bolting up to the driver side hedder? it looks like the slip piece for the y-pipe is bent at the wrong angle, it wont mate completely flat with the hedder. it bend hits the oil pan. has anybody had a problem like this and how did they fix it?

Do your heads have raised exhaust ports?? That might cause a problem....just something to think about....good luck, hope you get it to fit...

i have world s/r torquer heads, i dont think they have raised exhaust ports do they? i can get two bolts on the collector but not the third, the slip pipe is cocked so the third bolt wont go in, but it hits the oil pan and the k-member so i cant maneuver it alot.

I had the same exact problem, i tried every which way possible, it would not line up. Eventually i had to have my car flatbedded to my friends shop and he did a little cutting and welding and now it fits fine, i just wish i didnt waste 100 bucks on that stupid thing, i could have had one made for less.

mine fit fine.....

but if yours is really close but wont fit, try using a thick alum or copper collector gasket... that would push it down a 1/4" or so and may give you the clearance you need...

My Y-pipe was a swine to fit at first..the only way it would bolt up correctly was to loosely bolt up the drivers side-leaving the slip joint unclamped, then with a bit of gentle persuation offer up the pass side and get the bolts in.....then i tightened up all the bolts equally and it pulled itself up just right under the oil pan. The funny thing is i've just had Hotchkis SFC's fitted too and the new hedman y-pipe didn't need any modification to fit!!!!!!!!! The old hedman y i had needed loadsa massaging with the big hammer to fit.........

Maybe i'm just lucky?

Hope you get it sorted.

Phil

Hedman y-pipe problem

You aren't kidding about the fitmant of the their y-pipe. Thats the same problem I have and when I called Hedman, they said it should be fine. No way, it hits the bottom of the oil pan on the drivers side at the corner. We tried heating it and reshaping it to fit, but the more we messed with it the worse it got. Hedman needs to rework their pattern. The asked me if I could make work, nope it won't. So now I,m in the process of finding someone to custom make a y-pipe to fit the way it should and not hit the oil pan. That's been a problem in and of itself, since most won't do it or they want more than the nearly 300.00 to even buy the complete header system. So right now I'm still searching.
I just got the car back and running it sure would be nice if the aftermarket industry truly did live up their claim of "direct bolt in". I've found most of the stuff I put on my car had to have some tweaking done to make it work.

i know, hedman told me that the reason my y-pipe doesnt fit is because of the angle of the head and the exhaust ports. i got mine to bolt up by it is rubbing the oil pan so i got some header wrap and wrapped the y-pipe. i hope it doesnt leak, the collector flange started to flatten the one side of the flare fitting. oh well if it does, i guess ill have to make a slip section at work
