header question...

Would it be in improvement to add headers to a stock 305? I want to drop in a 350 in the near future....I have to do my VC gasket and figured since I got everything apart...might as well if it will help. Will the 305 headers fit on the 350? What headers are recommended and what exhaust will work best with the suggested headers?

hooker, heddmann, SLP.....whatever you want....ask for a 350 TPI headers, they are the best for your car.

well with headers most will agree you need them coated, what ever brand u chose.

a nice setup would be the hooker 2055's, then a high flow cat, then hooker catback.

i have slp 1 3/4, no cats, slp catback very nice setup and the sound i wanted.

1 5/8 headers will work fine with 305's as well as mild 350's

Headers will help wake up your 305. The stock exhaust is all around pure junk.

I don't have tuned port....does this matter? Does anyone have a pic of any of these mentioned? This is my first "real american car" and I want to do this one right.

it doesn't matter what set-up you have. They all bolt up the same on TBI, TPI and carb cars. If you are replacing the catback, cat and headers all at the same time get what is listed for TPI applications. The TBI stuff if the exact same but will have a reducer on the end of it to attach to you stock cat. Since you are not keeping that you don't need it. If you look on my website you can see plenty of pics of my exhaust under the "exhaust" section.

i have a 3" crush bent exhaust right now from the motor back to the muffler and duals off the muffler to 2 1/2" pipes...I'm going to be going with a new muffler w/ dual 3" exits...keeping the cat but gutting it when the headers go in. Will this be an ok setup? I want to do a true dual setup after i get some regular maintenance done.

The TPI air tubes, by the way, face the wrong direction for a carbed car--though that's not an insurmountable problem. The TPI headers also won't have the heat stove if that's important to you. Many people on this site knock Edelbrock's TES headers, but if you want a 'correct' fit, then you might consider Summit and EDL-6874. Shifty's right: The stock LG4 exhaust is very restrictive. However, note the L69 y-pipe. Not headers certainly, but much better than the LG4.
